Got home today to find this sitting on my desk:

The contents:

Okay, so it's not a new Rollie. My friend went to Singapore for a month, so I got a favour from her and had my Datejust sent to the RSC there for a service. As is to be expected from a full service, the DJ came back in beautiful shape:

A couple of years ago I gouged the lug at 5 o'clock on a glass door. It was a pretty deep scratch as this old photo shows:

A bit of a polish by the RSC and the lug's as good as new!

Come to think of it, the whole watch is as good as new, warranty and all:

I don't know why they don't change the warranty certificates to credit-card format, though.

And of course, the obligatory extras thrown in by the RSC - a leather pouch and a diary:

All up, not bad at all for A$340 - certainly a lot less than what RSC Melbourne would have charged. Now I'll just have to check accuracy over the next few days.

This is what I love about having a Rolex - every few years you get a virtually brand-new watch!

Michael, I don't have exact figures, but I do believe RSC Melbourne's prices start from A$500.

Steve, Singaporeans can be pretty demanding customers. Apart from the price, I was pretty certain that the guys at RSC Singapore would do a proper job - they know that if they stuff up, they'll never hearthe end of it.

What's the update on his Rolex watch you posted some while back where you asked us about the authenticity?

It was a silver coloured dial "Precision", on a strap, I think, but I might be wrong.

No updates, Bo. I just haven't gotten round to taking it to a watchmaker and checking out the movement. Right now there's nothing telling me that it isn't real, but of course that's an assumption until thatcaseback comes off.

The one problem with that 6426 is that the bracelet's disappeared. I'm trying to source the correct 78350 bracelet with the 557 end links, but I'm not having as much luck price-wise as I did with the 78360 for my Tudor.

A bezel change in RSC in Singapore for US$53 and they gave me a complimentary rolex pocket diary 2008. Or You can also choose to get a passport holder.
