Icon5 How exactly do you guys measure your wrists?

Seen a lot of posts recently about 36mm vs 41mm, 40mm vs 42mm etc. A lot of the choice seems to come down to the wearers wrist size.

What Im wondering is what would you consider the "correct way" (if there is such a thing) or how do you guys go about measuring your wrists? (As there are differences depending on how, where and when its done). Just my engineering mind at work here!

- Measure wrist when cold or hot? (silly but does change)
- Around the wrist bone, or the flat area just upwards
- Do you pull the tape snug or leave it more relaxed

All influencing factors, but depending on how its done...

I can get from a 6.75" to a 7.25" depending on the above.

I sold an Omega once to a guy that fitted me with a bit of slack. He had a 7" wrist but when he received the watch he said it was only good for 6.5" and couldn't even get it over his hand! He was a rugby player mind you!

Be interesting to get some feedback from you guys

In between the protruding wrist bone and your palm. Tight to the wrist. After you have been at room temperature for a while neither hot or cold. The temperature you are most likely to wear the watch at!

You bring up a very important point...

Most of the time my wrist is 6.5". I measure with a Measuring tape where I want my watch to sit! When it's very hot and humid my wrist will also go up in size to about 6.9". So all my watches are sized at about 6.75". So when ever I am sizing a new watch I alway compare the fit with an older watch and allow for similar fit and feel!

One alternative to using a measuring tape is to use a string, a Sharpie, and a ruler. Wrap the string around your wrist so there is some overlap. Mark the string with the Sharpie at a point where it overlaps. Be sure to mark both sections of the string that overlap. Remove the string, and measure the distance between the two marks.

Thanks guys, some helpful tips there. Seems a stupidly obviously question, but nevertheless it appears there is a correct way after all!

I'm always curious as to how one could wear their watch below (closer to had) their wristbone. To me, it's very bothersome in that position. The crown digs into my hand and interferes with my ability to bend my wrist.

Yeap, when mine slides down there I have to roll it up.

Matthew ..... another influencing factor is the fact that some people have much flatter wrists ..... so there is more space on the top of the wrist. So in other words, one person could have a larger circumference wrist but have less watch space on the top.

+1. The shape of your wrist has a lot to do with how a watch looks on you as well.

I've used this body tape measure that I have from GNC. It tells me my wrist is 7 1/8 to 7 1/4!

I wear mine on my right wrist, so the crown points up. It's one of the best things about being left-handed. I actually don't think I could wear a watch with a crown facing down.

I picked it up at a GNC here in the US, only 10 bucks!

http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3687525

I'm sure Amazon has something similar - just search for "body tape measure"
