Which one to get: 116622 or 16623?
Hey guys,
I am deciding between the to Rolex models to buy - 116622 (platinum silver dial) and 16623 (steel/gold with grey dial). Both brand new from the dealer and 40 mm. I have several questions: 1. Platinum/steel model is a bit cheaper (around 300$ cheaper) - how come? Platinum as a metal is more expensive than gold. Is it hollow, less platinum in platinum/steel model than gold in gold model? Really need an explanation... 2. As I understand, the new 116622 (platinum classic silver dial face) model is now upgraded to have the same features as 116622 (new blue dial) model. Is it true? Are they identical? In terms of: bracelet/clasp, mechanism (parachrom), chromalite dial - is this all true? If so, has the 16623 model been also upgraded to have these new features (parachrom, chromalite, new clasp, etc)? On the website of Rolex it is hard to tell. In French version, it says that 16623 has now chromalite lume as well, in English version, it does not say this. Does anyone know the actual situation? Thanks Borns P.S. which of the two models - steel/gold/grey dial or steel/platinum/silver dial would choose YOU and why? I tried them both and liked the steel/gold combination but leaning towards steel/platinum model for some reason (internet influence)...It is really hard to choose... |

16623 is two tone, has much more gold than 116622 has platinum (just the bezel - the bracelet is 100% steel).

Yes, you are right:
(from the website) ROLESIUM Features Many Rolex watches are available with the now-legendary combination of yellow, white or Everose gold and steel known as Rolesor, but Rolesium is a creation specific to the Yacht-Master. While the case and bracelet are in rugged 904L stainless steel, the bezel of the Rolesium versions is made of 950 platinum, imparting a silvery whiteness and vibrant luminosity for an unmistakable sense of luxury. Question 1 is clear now. What about question 2? Thanks |

Pretty sure since I bought 116622 for my father. No wait, also the dial is platinum in your case, since you're talking about silver (platinum!) dial. My bad.

1. I think Furbo is right, SS/Plat only has platinum bezel and dial, the TT has gold bezel, and bracelet which in total is probably a lot more gold than plat.
2. Yes, I'm almost positive. Just make sure (if you decide the SS/Plat) it has the new upgraded clasp. If the watchs model number is 116622, it will have the new clasp. If they don't have it in stock, demand they order it for you, or ask for a big discount on the old model. 3. I love all the Yacht-Masters but I'd choose the SS/Plat model over the TT. I did. I own the Platty and I couldn't be happier with it. It's a versatile piece that could be dressed up or down and for me and my lifestyle, I definitely need something less dressy than a TT model for a daily wearer. Either choice is great though, good luck and let us know what you decide! |
