Need help deciding on a Panerai
This will be my first Panerai and I am currently deciding between these 4 models. Any suggestions in terms of value, looks, and resale down the line?

those are four pretty different models....without knowing more, i would say 233, of course, but, there are arguments for the others, sure.

Of the bunch, I'd go with the 233. If you added the 312 it'd be a different story. Then again, I'm biased.
Good luck! |

All nice choices and you clearly like the chronograph complication so, being the owner of a 233, I'll meet you half way and say go for the 311
Functionally-speaking, less is not more, but we're are talking about Panerai here where less is more and so one pusher is cooler than two... And lest we forget the 8-days "complication"... I'm sounding like a broken record* around here but it's the best "function" I've had in any watch, ever Let me introduce you to one of my dream PAMs... the 345 //Off-Topic *I have some old records that would certainly "loop" on one of those cheesy turntables that came built-in with your average mid-fi receiver, but on my VPI, nothing loops and crackle and scratches are literally non-existent...

233 is where it's at on that list. Best bang for the buck and most functional from the ones you have listed.

BLUF: Forget resale and all that other crap... just get what you like the best.
Personally, I like a watch with a chrono function... to me it's an indispensable tool that I use in my daily routine. My everyday wear is an older PAM187 Chrono 1000. I like the large 47mm case plus it's a combo diver with full chrono function... and it's the ONLY stainless steel 47mm diver that Panerai ever made. |

None of them will have decent resell value, but get whatever you like the best, they all look great.

You are choosing from 3 chronos and a Power Reserve.
I never understood a Power Reserve on an Automatic watch unless someone needed to know when it was time to get off the couch. Out of the other 3 choices, IMHO, the 524 looks the closest to an "Original" Panerai as produced for the Italian Navy. Full disclosure: I am a fan of the Panerai Base and Luminor Marina models as a true representation of the history of the brand. Thank you Elliot |
