Opinion on this dial - explorer 5500

Does this look like an original dial? I know that many of the 5500 explorers are actually air kings that have been redialed. My concern is that the text is a very different color than the aged markets and numbers and hands.....

I was hoping for some friendly advice.

What are your thoughts on this?

Cheers and thanks!

definitely no expert on vintage but I do not think the dial is original to the watch. Some of the experts will chime in shortly to shed some light on the matter.

Thanks in advance to anyone that lends a hand here - you guys are a great resource and community that I have been following for a while now.

I've been searching for my first vintage explorer and this one came up. I really don't want to get burned.....

Cheers and thanks to all.

Check out hqmilton.com. Jacek is very respected in the vintage community and can source one for you if you dont find one on his site. You wont have to worry about any issues like redials, originality etc....His examples are tops. Good luck, and don't rush, the search is half the fun!

Thanks datejust - nice stuff on the site. This watch came up and I don't want to miss a solid opportunity....it doesn't have papers and I'm having a difficult time determining if the dial is original ofo if this is a redialed airking....other posts on the site mention that most of the super precisions are.....

The 5500 explorer is a minefield. What are they asking for this?

I don't think that's an original dial. I think that one is a repaint. Font seems too thick to me. Also the "Swiss" at the bottom isn't consistent with what I've seen in the past. Aaand the Lume is neither here nor there. Don't like the hands either

Yeah I'm feeling the same thing. And I've been looking at dials of this vintage for the last while...

Thanks for sharing your opinion joe - you look at enough of these dials you can start to go a little loopd :)

First thing I thought when I saw your photos was: "redial"!
