Just purchased a PAM 000 - couple of Qs & any advice?

As the title states, my lack of impulse control has resulted in another purchase. I was lucky enough to find a New In Box 2009 PAM 000.

After many many years of drooling over these watches I can finally do so on my own wrist.

My question:
Is it true that the full power reserve will not immediately be achievable if let to sit unwound for extended periods?

Aside from that, can anyone share any pointers for this noob?

Icon6 Congrats!

Store it as long as you want, give it a full wind when you take it out for wear and you will be good to go. I wind my PAM full every morning just to keep it at max when worn over course of few days.

Use the rubber and leather straps that came with it.

Do not buy another strap because it will trigger a madness that is next to impossible to stop even after you have passed the cost of watch in straps!

Enjoy your new toy!

I can definitely see the strap madness coming. The OE black calfskin will do just fine for now.

I've been subscribing to the wind every AM rule as its the most convenient but I haven't wanted to take it off since I got it home.

congratulations on an epic watch. each morning is fine and yes the straps are a slippery slope that spills over to your other watches.

This is sound advice...
Congrats on a great purchase!
Straps with a new Panerai can be detrimental to the bank roll.
I'm sure that won't hold you back though. Enjoy it!

full wind will give you more than 2 full days.

after 2 days i suggest to wind it already.

its very comfortable and sits flat on the wrist. get an ammo strap and you're all set

congrats!

+1!

I'm not sure if that's true but I don't think so. I think leaving it unwound for long periods of time wouldn't change the elasticity of the main spring. Try this: Wind fully and let it run out, measure the power reserve. Repeat and see if you get a consistent power reserve.

Meaning it loses time after a certain point and then stops entirely at 56hrs?

Update: It seems to be stopping / slowing way Down at 40 hrs.

I've heard that some say the 000 is a 40 hr reserve. (No I have not read the manuals - been traveling)

Thoughts?

You should get 56 hours before the time starts to get wonky. If it sat for a long time it might take some movement to get the oils distributed a bit. I'd wear if for a couple weeks and just monitor the power reserve.

If you really bought it BNIB from an AD, you could ask them to service it for you due to power reserve issues. If you bought it grey, then it'll most likely be on you. It might just work out also.

NIB from a private collection. Originally purchased at Wempe.

I'd thought that the 111 and 112 were 56 and older 000s were 40hr.

From past experiences dealing with Rolex, Tag and Breitling factory service ill seek a good Indy shop if needed. A good Indy, in my experience, earns your trust and business rather than the factory who really just wants to sell parts and takes eons.

An ETA 6497 movement is rated for 56hrs. Less than that and you have a mainspring issue. Take it in for service.

Actually, it should speed up slightly towards the end before stopping.
