Our Turn For Severe Weather
I just finished six hours of cleaning up after a severe thunderstorm last night. 4.5 inches of rain fell in a very short time. There were ducks swimming in my driveway this morning.Though my crawl space is dry, my neighbors on all sides have water up to the floor joists in their crawl spaces. I have 22 250 year-old oak trees in my yard, and the number of branches and sticks down was amazing. Unfortunately, round two is predicted for tonight.
Just two hours ago, the sky was blue and clear. This is the view right now to the southwest, the direction from which most of our weather comes. |

Just been on the dog and bone (phone) to my sister-in-law in Calgary, who said they're experiencing mass flooding, ivers bursting their banks and evacuations etc, like they haven't seen for years. Feel for you mate..it's usually good old blighty that ends up with weather like your're getting at the moment

Got it pretty good in the Twin Cities, Joey. Lots of trees down in north suburbs, 60K or so still without power. I hear St. Cloud State University lost a lot of trees...St. Cloud got it worse. Thought you would want to know about that.

Sorry to hear that the annual northern migration of the dry line boundary has moved to your area. My wife is from Tracy and graduated from St Cloud State. In Oklahoma, as you can imagine, we can empathize. (My children were hiding in their elementary school a mile away from the path of the May 20th monster tornado while my wife and I watched helplessly from Chicago O'Hare on way home from business trip---all ok.)
One thing you can count on....severe tornadic storms in Oklahoma, late April- beginning of June; Severe weather moving to Minnesota, late June- August. Hunker down.

That's really horrible. Bad enough already but more coming is just too much. Good luck and stay safe.

Thinking of you this morning Doc. Hope you and your family made it through the night high and dry. Check in when you can and let us know how you made it with last night's predicted storms.

Thanks for all the kind wishes. It's pouring now, but the winds are fine. In the past couple of days, many boats, lifts and docks have been mangled by straight-line winds. I'm hoping for decent weather next week for our motorcycle trip to New Mexico.
