Japanese/Chinese Translation Request

Many years ago my Grandfather gave me a watch band that he had made while in the Pacific during WWII, while serving in the Army. The story as I recall, was that his unit had shot down a Japanese plane (Zero?) and he had a watch band made with a couple of the cockpit instrument markers.

My first two questions are: Is this Japanese or Chinese characters, and can anyone translate them?

Here are some pictures:

My next question is what watch would be issued to Army soldiers during this time? I've seen references to Hamilton and Bulova and would like to get a vintage piece for this band.

Thanks!

It's Chinese. The first picture say "Main on/off switch". The second picture says "Source of electricity for the canons".

Those are Chinese characters but also used in the Japanese language referred to as Kanji.
