New Explorer 2 doesn't always start when pushing crown in.
My father has a 2 month old Explorer 2 he purchased new from an AD recently when setting the time (seconds hack) and pushing in the crown the watch will sometimes not start unless you shake it a bit. The watch is fully wound 40X or so. Sometimes you can pull out the crown and push it an and it starts fine other times it wont start unless you give it a good shake. Should he service the watch and is this a pretty easy fix? Anyone else exp this before?

There is nothing wrong with your fathers watch..
The crown is not a switch that turns things on and off, it is simply a lever... When pulled out, all the wheels and gears are physically held in place against each other and sometimes they experience friction binding and that friction needs to be overcome slightly by a jiggle or tap..

A little tap or rotation will do it. Nothing violent though.

Im not sure this is right. Every Rolex or watch I have or have had when fully or even partially wound starts as soon as you push the crown in. Even though its new it may need some more lube to overcome some of the friction. I don't feel you should have to jolt a modern/new Rolex to get it going lol. I will probably have him take it to RSC.

When I unscrew the crown on my Sub to give it the occasional wind I have to give it a little extra turn until it pops out, kinda like shifting a manual transmission, sometimes the gears don't quite "mesh" and you gotta wiggle things a bit. It concerned me at first but now I expect it, one more way that you "bond" with your watch.
