How long did it take you to find a specific Rolex?

I've been on the search for several months for a specific Rolex and still looking. I know some are still searching especially for older or vintage models. So how long did it take or how long have you been searching?

I bet you get anywhere from 5 minutes to 25 years as answers here. For me, about a month once I decided what I was looking for.

I posted want to buys on a number of global watch forums and made countless non internet based enquiries over a total of 3 years before I managed to track down a lovely Rolex 16753 Rootbeer from this very site.....it pays to be patient!!

Depends but typically I'm never in the market so to speak, I usually just run across a sale advert here on TRF and say "hmm, haven't had one of those in a while"

I wanted to buy a fairly hard to find watch, altho available on ebay at far too high a price, and PMed the members of a couple of different forums who I researched and had the watch and found a few willing sellers and did a deal at a very reasonable forum price. Only took a month or so in total.

Finding my 3rd (having flipped the 1st 2) F Serial or later 16710 in pristine condition with boxes, books, and papers, for under $4,900. You can find many of this "rare" discontinued piece for $5,750 to $7,000...but it takes work and patience to buy right. In my case, 3 months of near-daily vigilance.

Some take years and for me I hire the very best hunters that find treasures I seek! You never know when that lucky day comes. Of course I speak only of vintage watches as modern watches take no hunting except for best deal. Hope you find what you are looking for...Cheers,

Depends what you are looking for . . . how easy you want to transfer $$$ . . . condition . . . so many things . . . and as mentioned in a previous mail . . . patience wins !

about a year for my 1675 and the same for my 1680, then the 16600 just came along and was an impulse buy.

I found the dial I wanted on a TT and saw the full gold one on holiday. When I got back to my local AD I ordered it and they said if it was in stock at Rolex warehouse in Kent, I would have it in 7 days, if not it could take up to a month. I had the full gold on 5 days later! :smoking:

Didn't take me very long. I had (still have) a 1976 SS DJ I got from my dad. I really wanted the Daytona (and still do). When I started looking is when the GMT-IIC came out. I took one look and knew that was what I wanted. Loved the ceramic bezel. Love the green hand. 6 years later, I still love the watch.

Also thought the YM was really nice, but it was too expensive.

Yeah.. across the board is the answer.

I searched for six months and then gave up and bought my Rolex from a trusted seller here on the board. (ordered new) If you're going to buy new, then no need to look further than that.

Older or rare models at a good price, could take a while.

I personally would like a nice different color collection of the newer ladies 31mm DJ models - but since they're kind of new to the market, there isn't a bunch of used ones of those for sale YET. I am biding my time. I've had my eyes looking for two years plus so far.

I bought my first Rolex brand new. I bought the one that captured my heart the most, the new Explorer II, white dial. This has pretty much ended my search for a better watch. The others are just different flavours for when the mood strikes me, but they are not as perfect to me as the Explorer II. If I had have just one watch it would easily be my first Rolex, and I wouldn't even care so much, not having the others.

To stay on topic, it didn't take me long. When I realised I wanted it, I checked it out at the AD and walked away to think and sleep on it. Then, I went back a week later and bought it. One of those things. It's a large amount of money (to me) and I wanted to be sure that it was the right move. And it was. And, funnily enough, after wearing the watch for a couple of months now, I love it more and more and realise what a good decision it was to purchase it.

Now, the second Rolex purchase went even quicker for me. I decided I wanted the Green Submariner C as well, so I contacted DavidSW on a Friday afternoon, at work, via email. On Monday morning, before lunch, it was on my desk. He's in the US; I'm in Sydney. Fastest delivery I've personally experienced. And it made the whole experience even cooler/exciting -dropping so much $$$ on a watch, sight unseen, and then having it delivered so fast, perfectly sized and from a genuinely professional seller.

So I think, once I want something, it ends up in my hands pretty quick!

I like to take my time, do my research, think about what I really want and then watch the 'for-sales' until the right one comes along. I invariably like something that is no longer available new so there's no just walking into an AD. I'm not a flipper so the decision needs to be right.

My 18238 took about a month once I made the decision. They're fairly easy to find, but took some time to find "the one".
