Insurance

Hello Ladies and Gents!

This is my first post! I am 24 and proud owner of a Rolex Datejust ii, I wanted to pick some brains on here, because of my age I am aware when I wear my Rolex out that I make become target of attempted mugging(s). What is the best cos t effective insurance against this sort of problem?

Has anyone had an experience of having their watch taken force-ably and was you able to claim for the expense?

Thank You :)

No way to answer as every insurance company will have its own policy.

You need to ring up and ask them yourself. Ask them a couple of questions and see how they respond.

You are in UK and Hiscox were highly recommended to me so I went with them. I've never had to claim from them though. I asked many questions like the mugging one you did and was more than satisfied with the answers.

Try adding them to the household insurance but ask the questions you need, I found quite a few differences between various companies. Some identified the item as luxury jewellery, however some are very thorough making reference to model and serial number etc.

At the end of the day it is only a watch, wear it wherever, honestly you would be surprised in the UK how many people don't notice or care! Insurance adds peace of mind

Good luck

Why does your age make you a tempting target to theives! Just wondering? Seems like you would be least likely to be mugged since you are young. I would think a mugger would rather target an old fart like myself than a young whippersnapper like yourself!

Unless you are a "Hay everybody, look at my Rolex" type of person, hardly anybody will notice your watch. If you are that type of person, learn to box.

I used to be with Hiscox but the premium was ridiculous, now with Sheila's Wheels, they charge about £15 I think to add an itemised watch, value £6K to my policy.

Agree, most people never ever notice. Be aware of your surroundings when out and about and stay out of shady areas. Insurance does give you peace of mind though. I'm not sure if it's avaliable on your side of the pond but many here use Jewler's Mutual Insurance, myself included.

Be discreet, don't draw attention to your watch. Most people will never even notice it. I someone asks the time, look at your cell phone.

I suggest M&S household insurance premier. They insured single item up to £15k at home without naming the item and you select the value amount at all risk, which includes accidental damage, you want away from home. There is no requirement of valuation, just that you can proof you purchased the item, just keep your receipts.

Here in the US jewelry insurance typically runs about 1% of the item value. They do require an appraisal in order to understand the value. You can get discounts for multiple items, or you can get the insurance coupled with other other home insurance policies to save money.
