Flipping question

I posted a few weeks ago that my Z-series Sea Dweller is with RSC in Dallas for service and that I plan to flip it when it comes back since it reminds me of my previous employer who laid me off unexpectedly after 10 years and 10 great performance reviews.

So what does a WIS do when they are selling one watch? Well, we look for others of course. What has caught my eye so far is a bit unexpected for me - the new 2013 Glashutte Original Senator Panorama Date Moon Phase in stainless steel on the black gator strap. I say "unexpected" not because of the brand, I've always loved GO, but because of the style. This wouldn't be a daily wearer because I don't dress up for work on a routine basis right now so I'm not sure how often I'd wear it. BUT, I can't stop admiring the beauty of this peice and the sapphire caseback reveals a beautiful movement, which includes 55 jewels and a 21k rotor!

amitdevhanda.wordpress.com/2013/03/26/glashutte-original-re-designs-their-iconic-senator-collection-for-basel-2013/

I had been looking at the Pelagos and the Omega Ti PO, but I already have the SM300 which is a stunning dive watch, as well as the Helson, the Monster and even the Blancpain, Omega Great White and the Aerospace are rated at over 100 meters!

The thing is, I won't get enough from the sale of the SD to fund the GO, so I'd have to flip a second watch to afford it. Looking at my collection, the only other ones that would bring in enough cash to do it would be the Blancpain, Aerospace or the Great White. The first two are too unique in my collection for me to flip, and since I won't let go of the Blancpain GMT, it makes sense to let go of the Great White instead.

The GO is $11k MSRP and I talked to an AD yesterday that will give me 25% off and I might even be able to do better this fall from AD I know in Dallas when they lose their AD status due to the arrival of the GO boutique.

What say you my fellow WISs? Is it worth flipping both the SD and the Great White for the GO?

You'll get good money for those two flips and that GO is gorgeous but you're losing money buying it new. IMO you'd be hard pressed to recover your money if you flipped the GO in the future even with a 25% discount. If you aren't going to flip it then it's a great dressy watch addition to the collection.

Thanks Mike. The resale is one of the things I was wondering about. There aren't a lot of GOs on the resale market and I haven't done my homework to see what kind of value they are holding and if they have the annual price increases than other major brands do to prop up the resale market value.

Hey Karl - the SD is definitely going. I like the watch, but I hate that it turns my stomach looking at it because of the surprise layoff. The question is, what do I replace it with.

If you want to check out the Pelagos, let me know Roger. I'd be happy to meet for coffee and let you oogle mine.

Very nice offer and I'll PM you my phone number. Maybe that will seal the deal for me. The other thing I had considered was the Pelagos and then either upgrading my mtn bike or buying a second one with the leftover proceeds from the SD sale.

I've done crazier flips than what you're proposing but I would not get rid of the SD after an RSC service. Such a nice watch. It also seems you wouldn't use the GO as much as the others.

I guess if you really like the GO, then GO for it. ;-)

Nice one!

The SD is going to be flipped - 100% sure of that now. It reminds me of a bad employment situation.
