Mario Paci straps: a brief review

I ordered 4 straps by Mario Paci recently, and they promptly arrived today. I've installed 3 of them and snapped a couple of shots. The MP straps are fabulous! They're made of thick hides, rich in color and aroma. They arrived firm, but soften quickly as they're broken in (which I did all day).

As I have small 6.5" wrists, I ordered all but one strap in 115/75 size. This fits fine, with the buckle fastened at the 2nd or 3rd hole, but it leaves a very short tail. Due to the thickness of the straps, consider ordering one size longer when ordering (125/80 in my case). MP makes this recommendation on their order page as well.

All the straps I ordered came with sewn-in buckles that are very robust. I would have preferred to use my stock Panerai buckles, which are smaller, but as I said the buckles are sewn in; furthermore, the straps themselves are not tapered, so the stock Panerai buckles I own wouldn't fit anyway. That said, the buckles themselves are well built, nicely finished, and look increasingly proportional with longer and wider straps; on the 26mm wide strap I got for my PAM 422, the buckle looked better.

For anyone with a particular buckle or strap configuration in mind, MP also offers custom made straps, which provide a greater variety of choices for an appropriate delay. One final note, MP also offers tubes and screws, a convenient option when ordering.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the quality, look, and feel of the straps I received, and have no qualms recommending them to anyone interested. I may try one of their custom jobs in the near future. Cheers.

I like the MPs too and I have a nice olive sharky. The only downside is if you want to move it or trade it, you can't do so on certain popular forums (coff-coff - p.com-coff coff) But I suppose there are other ways to sell or trade them. Those straps you ordered look really terrific actually. Glad you took the pics! Enjoy!

Why can't they be sold on TRF?

Rather than getting a longer strap couldn't you just remove the floater?

Yes, I've actually done that with one of them. But the floater is wide enough that the tail sticks out pretty far without it on the others. A minor detail, I'm just picky.

I'm a member there as well...but the quality of discussion does not seem as high as TRF...

Thank you for your review and for your kind words.

We always suggest that people order 1 size larger to make sure they can have enough of the tail showing through the keeper.

I am more than happy to accommodate TRF members on strap sizes that may be outside of what we stock as we would like people to see the Original Straps from the Original strap maker for Panerai from 1938 to 1997...these straps are still made in the same shop.

Thank you

Congratulations - very nice straps and good writeup!

The OEM rubber 115/75 fits me perfectly but all my aftermarket straps were ordered longer, but only on the tail side (120/75 and even 130/75). I suppose that's because they're thicker than OEMs (well, at least the OEMs that came with our 233s...).

Good tip on the mixed length for smaller wrists.

They make some nice looking straps. I was set to order one & sent the US rep an email asking the thickness & whether the buckle was brushed or polished. The guy seemed annoyed at my questions so I bought a couple Dirk straps instead.
