Rolex Upgrade Debate...
What up!
Hope all is well... I'm debating on upgrading. I currently have a 116610(submariner c), I bought it when it first came out and it is my first rolex...Also have a PAM 112 I'm looking at the 116333 datejust ii. Two tone gold, with arabic or regular numerals. To do this, i would sell my submariner and then pay the difference for the 116333 datejust. Here is my issue... I really like the datejust, i want some gold in my life, and i think it would be good stepping stone, to eventually upgrade to an all gold GMTII or Sub. However, since the submariner is my first Rolex I purchased, i have some emotional value in it. I wanted to pass my first rolex down to a future child. I mean i guess i could pass down any Rolex, but it being my first i thought it would be a little more special. Am i putting too much emotion on the upgrade? To get a two tone datejust, i would probably be out of pocket 3.5k cash, maybe 2.5(ive seen the deals here!). I do have the cash to pay out of pocket for the watch but at this time, I would rather keep that in my savings. Thoughts? Thanks in advanced!!! |

Sell the Panerai. You can always pick one up later.

Having owned the whole line at different times (as many have) -
I can say you might not like the feel of the djii compared to the Sub. If you really love your sub I think you might regret selling It too. |

It's just a watch, if the next one makes me happier, bye bye. I say do it.
That said, the SubC would be a keeper. |

HAHA!
I shouldn't mentioned the PAM. I will be coming out of pocket more if i sell the pam. I like the PAM cause its a good watch to switch it up. I love both actually... I always wanted submariner and panerai. In regards to value, do you think that my submariner, being its first year will do anything for value? I purchased right when the model changed occured Thanks |

I have, in the past years, traded off a couple of Rolexes to fund upgrades or sorts. And I am regretting every bits of it now.
Trust me, keep that SubC. It is an iconic piece that most people would love to have. You should save a little bit more to get that half gold DJII. Now you will have a dress watch, a sports watch, and a casual one to swop about. Hope that helps.

Sub-C and DJ II are a dime a dozen..........if you sell or trade it and change your mind, you can easily pick up another one for a good price. Do what makes you happy.

Get rid of the Pam. Don't get me wrong I like panerai but I'm starting to feel like they're played out. Every Model looks like the previous model. They all just seem to blend together. Go for the datejust ditch the Pam and don't look back!! IMHO of course!!

I was in the same position owning a Sub and the Pam 112. I just waited two more years and scraped and saved and recently picked up the SS DJII, smooth bezel w/Arabic. I love all three and wouldn't trade or sell any of them.
My answer would be to save and then be a proud owner of all three! Best of luck with your decision. |

I think the lines on the older cases were superior. Both the new GMT and Sub seem very boxy to me when compared to their older counterparts. I do however prefer the new bracelets and clasps. As far as the ceramic bezels, I could take it or leave it.
