If Rolex took a poll to remove Cyclops...

Would you be in favor or not?

I own two Rolex watches a Sub and a Daytona. My wife has a 177200 ladies Oyster Perpetual. I have the Milgauss on my short list . . .

I despise the cyclops, hate the way it breaks the symmetry of the dial and makes things look strange ant any angle when glancing at the watch.

I suspect a poll here and most purists would be in favor of keeping it. I am glad Rolex makes models without it.

I really want Rolex to be my first watch, but the Cyclops really does bug me. I have tried to like it but it's like a pimple that I want to pop.

Somone said that the AD can remove it but I want to purchase it the way it sits and keep it that way for years...

I'm sorry I really want to like it, but it doesn't make me smile.

At least I can still get a Sub with-out the Cyclops. But now I'm going to miss the date...

I use to do it by myself, it's very easy to do.

I start with my cyclop remover kit.

Pull it up in my full size Bergeon case holder.

And start the work.

Damn, Rolex have quality glue so I have to warm it up a bit.

Now I hope it will come off.

Ouups, not so good.

What do you think, did I have to change crystal? Or can it
be polished?

Now that's funny! ....As we say in this part of the country: "Sledgehammer mechanics".

Poll: Cyclops with a date function...as others have stated: Iconic.

X2. Remember to pressure test, though.

I see the mighty Jocke wears a Seiko when handling de-cyclopification heavy machinery !

There's really nothing a ball peen hammer and a blow torch can't fix. A lil Polywatch and she'll be good as new!

BINGO. We have a Winner!

It's a Rolex thing. Anyone can remove it or pay a guy or buy a no cyclops AM crystal and have a watchmaker install it, but very few ever do.

I mean, if you don't want your Rolex to follow traditional Rolex lineage of styling, why not ask them to offer a 3rd bracelet style too, and really make a Rolex look like a Bulova?

I didn't vote.

I don't buy watches with a date function. Therefore I don't need a cyclops.

Whatever Rolex would choose to do wouldn't impact me.

The technology certainly exists to merge the cyclops into the crystal or make it unnecessary but why? The technology exists to simply look at your smart phone for the time, weather, and stock reports all at a glance...so why even wear a watch at all?

Why keep the cyclops...it looks great! Simple as that!

Cyclops was the one which was deterring me from buying a Rolex..luckily Sub comes without a date and no cyclops.

I agree that the Cyclops is iconic. Would be nice if it were an option to have it or not.

Keep it.

IMHO, many of us Rolex guys are getting to be a little older. With this, goes the eyesight.

Look... Back in my military days, I had 20/15 vision. Now I'm pushing 20/25, but the arms are having to stretch out to see close in. The cyclops really helps with this. Lots more older folks wearing the Rolex than younger ones. We need the help. ;-) As for you younger guys, you will want the cyclops when you DO get older.

Add to this, the cyclops is part of "the look" IMHO.

As someone else stated, if you don't like it, buy a no-date or a sea dweller.

Jocke... PRICELESS. Thanks for the laugh!

Exactly! Even with the cyclops I'm struggling these days. Old eyes - mind of 20 year old.

In the poll I went for the option of having an option.

Failing that, Jocke's 92% full PM inbox will be inundated with requests by non cyclops lovers to work his magic on their watches.

I have been told that, in the ceramic models, a special tool in required to swap the crystal for another one without a cyclops. Can anyone confirm this? I always thought it would be a simple matter of buying a crystal for an 114060 and having it installed in my 116610.

Personally, I can live without the cyclops, but as a design feature, Rolex should keep it.
