15300ST or 15400ST : Best investment?

Hi,

I love the AP RO and like to buy either a 15300ST or a 15400ST.

I like them both but was wondering which one, longer term, will keep its value best? Ie, which one is the best investment (or least worse investment as a watch like this is never a good investment imho).

Both use the same calibre but the 15300ST is more like the 'Jumbo' in size, so this makes it maybe more interesting longer term?
On the other hand the 15400ST is 41mm which seems to be the 'new norm' (cfr Datejust 2).

If I look at older RO's (ones of 36mm for instance) they seem to have lost a lot of value so I wonder if the same couldn't happen with the 15300ST a few years from now...

Go with the 15300, more of a classic size now a days and I find the dial to be much more well proportioned than the 15400. Either or is a great watch though.

Go with what you like better, if you want to invest there are other ways of doing it, both are great in their own way, the question is what suits you best :)

I don't think there will be any differencce in used prices later on so buy whichever you prefer. I preferred the new 41mm size for my wrists altho the dial can seem quite big so that's why I went with the ROC.

15400 for me. Like the balance of all minute indicators. (i.e. no AP logo @ 12 O' Clock).


well... at least thats what I think! I had a choice between a new 15300 and a 15400 but I went for a 15400, not only because of the dial but I also liked the size as well.

My take is that the 15300 will hold up better as it has experienced more depreciation than the 15400. With that said, I prefer the layout of the 15400 dial.

15300 is what i went with and I usually like larger watches. So that says alot that i went with the 15300, nothing like the classic 39mm royal oak size. I like how the bezel is thicker on the 15300, seems too thin on the 15400. In terms of investment, watches are usually not good investments but the 15300 is discontinued so it is worth a bit more now.


But we are splitting hairs, any royal oak is amazing on the wrist, you cant go wrong either way. Here's a pic to help u decide,

hmm....I was not aware of this. My knowledge of AP is minimal, at least by TRF standards I tried on the 15400 last spring and was sort of let down or relieved that I walked away without feeling the need to email dsw. One thing I did not like was the thin bezel. My progression as a WIS went from tag to breitling to rolex so I had become accustomed to a more substantial feeling watch. But the more it fermented in my head, a thin watch is the logical choice! The 15300 might be the goldilocks zone for me. I need to look up the specs now

I am totally biased but in agreement that 39mm is the RO sweet spot. Can't go wrong with either but for me the 15300 is the one.

15300, I'm really having a hard time when I think of flipping it for a Roo. It's really a clasic , iconic and at 39mm , the perfect size.

As previously said, neither for investment. Yes, the 15300 has been discontinued and is harder to find in really good shape, but that tells us nothing about the future. What if the 15400 were discontinued after a couple of years and AP went back to a 39mm similar to the 15300? Now all of a sudden the 15400 could be the more valuable watch in the long term. No sense in trying to predict the future -- buy what you like, buy at a good price and your downside should be limited. Just don't focus on upside as you will probably be disappointed no matter which model you purchase.

15300 for sure no doubt about it the better AP in size and style and now discontinued ! The 15400 just doesn't do it for me - large unnecessarily, out of porpotion with the movement, and more loud fashion than subtle understated class

Just because 15300 is a discontinued model doesn't mean it will confidently retain higher value in terms of money. The value you may get is when you have that strong feeling to own it as a watch enthusiast.
