New Explorer 1 or day date 18038???
I was set to buy a yr old Explorer 1 39mm but saw a day date white roman 18038 1985 on leather? I know two completely different watches. Until today I always thought the day date belongs on its bracelet. Any thoughts?
I can't buy both. |

Yes. Which one do you like on your wrist the most?

Tough one, I'd go for the Explorer I, but still a hard decision.

Hi,
I'd agree that the single biggest factor is picking the one that appeals to you the most. If you've had your heart set on buying an Explorer for some time, but you now opt for the Day-Date because you've convinced yourself it's the "better" watch, you might well find that you end up regretting your purchase, and never really being satisfied with it. On the other hand, if the Day-Date is the one that sings to you, then go for it. In terms of practical considerations that might affect you decision, one thing to think about might be if you're going to be around or in water a lot. If so, the leather strap of the Day-Date could become a problem - although the watch itself will cope just as well as the Explorer, naturally. |

Maybe you should take some more time to decide.

They both have the some WR of 100m. Get the DD find a black gator strap or a high end black rubber. 18k YG with a black band is classic. You get the day and the date with the DD.

If you like both, consider the condition of the day-date. It's a 28 year old watch so condition is definitely important. Are they the same price? Do you know if the strap is Rolex also? If not, consider than into the price. Personally, I'd go for the Explorer, but since you like both more info is needed especially since one of the choices is pretty old.
