Dropped my rolex

I know it is pathetic.

I dropped my rolex sub when i was putting it in my night table. It must have been like 1.3 feet but dropped on a wooden floor.

I don`t see any damage on the outside. No dents no scratches. They certainly use hard steal!

When i shake the watch i hear some noise but i am not sure if that is normal. When i wear it an shake my wrist i don`t hear anything abnormal. But when i take it off and gently shake it i started to hear something. But not like a scratching noise or a ding.
So is it normal ? Anyone has experience with it ? Getting paranoid now.

Probably the rotor you are hearing. If it is running and keeping accurate time, you probably are ok.

More knowledgeable people will surely chime in.

Yeah you are probably hearing the rotor spinning back and forth. Keep monitoring it.

I have no idea how fragile/solid a sub is. I know there are shock absorbers. KIF I also know that the rotor is a weak point. My rolex is only a few months old. Still in warranty.

Yes, wind it 40x's. set against a good time source and check back in 24 and 48 hrs. More than likely you are OK, ceramic seems to be waaay harder than wood on Rolex's..

Well if its still running and keeping time over 24 hours, forget about the fall your watch is fine.

Yes, accuracy and also power reserve when used normally (not when hand-wound).

If any parts in the movement were damaged, it'll show up in operation. And if the rotor is scraping then it might not fully charge the mainspring.

Are you sure its actually noise coming from the watch head when you shake it? Most of the time when people observe sound when shaking the watch back and forth, its actually the bracelet making the noise.

I hear some noise that i think could be from the bracelet. When i take it off it gets more :-) So there must be some influence of the bracelet. But i also think i hear the pendulum.

This.
Unlike the Valjoux movements in my older IWC and Fortis watches, I have no rotor "wobble" or noise in my Rolex watches. If the noise is not coming from the bracelet, but from the watch itself, I would have it checked. (Just use a bracelet tool, Bergeon, etc., and detach the bracelet, then shake the watch head only.) Good luck.

I shake my SubC and makes no noise whatsoever. Consider taking the bracelet off and shaking it once again in order to see if it's the watch itself.

Shouldn't be hearing this wobbly sound from the cause itself.

Thank you guys for all this advice. I know i am not the first raising the issue about "rolex noise when shaken". Thanks for the patience !

people tend to get paranoid when dropping an expensive watch like rolex. Especially me.

Is there any difference in sound with a fully wound spring or a non fully wound spring ? Does the pendulum still move around when fully wound ? i guess so but what happens with the energy then ?

Yes the pendulum just swings by gravity, now in the mainspring barrel there is a mechanism when the spring is fully wound it just slips in the mainspring barrel, so you cannot over-wind even on a manual wind.

That action will make some noise too ? When it slips?

Sorry to hear that but really...1.5 feet onto wood.

It could have been 5 feet onto concrete! I think you have nothing to worry about.

A couple of years ago, I forgot I was wearing my Explorer II and started using a jackhammer. I ran it for about an hour before realizing that I forgot to take my watch off. No damage whatsoever. Rolexes are pretty darn tough.

You should be fine as posted above. Keep an eye on the accuracy for a week or so. Also as posted above the safest place for your Rolex usually in right on your wrist.

I agree with the other posts above. Check for accuracy. If any issues arise have it serviced before the warranty is up.

My mother accidentally pushed mine off a table falling three feet to a hard floor. No issues. Have swung an axe for hours chopping cords of wood. No issues. The vibration of chainsaws for hours and weeks at a time. No issues. Rolex movements are well thought out and have decades of use on millions and millions of examples through extreme use - sometimes intended and sometimes not. Yours will be just fine!

If it's still running you're probably fine. I've dropped mine on hardwood floors at least half a dozen times. Once, I tried to break its fall with my shoe and inadvertently kicked it across the room about five feet away. It was fine Scared me to death, but she was fine. Just take a deep breath, you'll be fine...maybe Just kidding

LOL., I did exactly the same thing with my 16710. I asked RSC to switch a link from one side of the bracelet to the other. Somehow they managed to break the link, they either didn't notice or kept quiet. Half an hour after I got the watch back the bracelet broke and I did exactly the same thing you did...I tried to break the fall and instead accidentally kicked the watch. It just slid on the floor. And nothing happened...but it was terrifying.

I dropped my DJ some 4.5' to the concrete sidewalk.

I took it to my watchmaker, who held it to his ear, gave it a shake, handed it back to me and said, "It's fine."

I said, "What?"

And he said, "If something were wrong, I would have heard it."

It's running just fine.

I've only had regulated since and that was just to get in before the warranty ran out.
