very cool side by side. amazing how similar they are.
some differences, however: the pic clearly shows the bigger/bolder font of the 372 and (interestingly) that the vintage piece doesn't have a "vintage" lume color. |

There's a great comparison on Paneristi as well. Panerai really hit it out of the park with the 372: form, function, history, time-keeping --everything with the 372 is exactly as it should be.

I think that's because on the 6152 the "Luminor Panerai" is painted on the dial whereas with the 372 it's engraved. As for lume, the 372 glows that green-ish lume color once it is exposed to the sun light for a minute which gives it a really nice look.

I'm fairly certain the 6152 is engraved as well. It is just thin and they used white paint. You can see examples of vintage Panerai where the paint has fallen out of the "Panerai".

The 372 is such a winner! OK, it is a watch with zero complications but still at the prices they are fetching today mint used, I even dare saying it is a great value! :-)

But Ken, some early owners of those vintage pieces are doing "ok" with those vintage pieces. The way the prices are going, I'll never be able to get my grail.

Next on my wish list would be a tribute 6152/2 Radiomir, a 399 without the seconds.

Is it the 6154? I thought it was the 6152/2? I need to buy some Panerai reference manuals now!

Honestly ... I like the vintage hands better ... They should used this shap for the 372 ... Pointier and the longer hour hand ...
And now i put on my 372 and go to bed

Although in the minority, I prefer the aesthetic of the 372's hands. I like that the hour hand never encroaches on the dial's markers.

I've never heard of a 6152-2 and tbh I don't believe they ever used that designation...
In 1950 they released the 6152, the first Panerai resistant to 200M. They were still busy producing 3646s though and then in 1954 they made the 6154 for a branch of the Egyptian military (hence the current-day nickname, "Egiziano piccolo"). The estimate is 30 units for the 6154 and most likely less for the "original" 6152... Then came the first of at least a dozen iterations of the 6152-1: 3-6-9-12 Radiomir Panerai, 3-6-9-12 Luminor Panerai, destro version of those. In ~1955, they added the Crown guard to some* 6152-1s. The first of the "Marina Militare" dials came out soon after (still with Rolex 618, 3-6-9-12). *The CGs were mainly used by the SDAI Rescue Divers ("S.M.Z."); the Marina Militare M.M. / Gamma Combat Swimmers had less need for such protection (Navy = Government body = ecomomics always at play). In 1956, they released the 60mm 2/56 Egiziano, the very first* non-Rolex-Cortebert-618 Panerai which incorporated the 8-day () Angelus 240 SF. After that, they used the Angelus to add a seconds sub-dial as well as the significantly-increased PR to both the 3646 and 6152-1. Not that the 3646 was still in production, but the Navy was happy to save some Lire by having older 3646 refurbished with the 8-day movement. The other modification they did to these refurbished 3646 cases was to "weld" sold lugs to the case, replacing the original wire lugs. Clearly not as strong as integral lugs, but an improvement nonetheless. The last "evolutionary step" of [vintage] Panerai was to go with the now-familiar mix of polished bezels and satin (/matte?) cases... . *Except for the Mare Nostrum proto which used an Angelus 215. Well there you go, my Executive Summary of Vintage Panerai - The References, free of charge
