Need your advice and help urgently
I need your help Guys and a decision by tonight. I have had an opportunity presented to me. Someone has offred a straight exchange of my SD for a S/S Sub date. here are the statistics.
SD - Purchased Nov 07 by myself BNIB Z series Sub - Purchased Sept 07 BNIB Z series I have the watch on approval and am now torn in what to do. 1) Which ever I have it is (believe it or not) a lifetime purchase, that means I won't be purchasing any other Rolex Watches. 2) I like both Watches maybe a slight tip toward the SD due to its heft but I love the fact that the Sub is iconic. 3) Is it a fair trade. Guys can I have your advice whatever I decide one of the watches has to be posted tomorrow and its now 10:00am GMT Thanks

Well speaking for myself and not a huge fan of the cyclops,I would hang on to your SD.Yes the sub is a Rolex classic, but the SD is slightly more exclusive if you are in to that sort of thing, and IMHO a much cleaner looking tool watch.

In pure financial terms i don't think it makes sense. SS sub dates are two a penny - the SD is a much rarer and sought after by collectors. I would have thought that you could flip the SD privately and then had more than enough to pick up a SS Sub date and a few quid as well.
I tried the SD and the 14060m at the same time and went for the sub as i did not like the high profile of the SD. I wear my sub nearly every day and love it to bits. The sub is definitely an icon but so is the SD among watch lovers. Do you have doubts about your SD?? [some people just don't gel with it i believe] If so consider selling it on a watch forum and then choosing your next Rolex. Regards Tim |

You can't go wrong with either of them. I'm biased towards the Sub, but the SD is the heavyweight of Rolex watches. If you're going to stick with one Rolex, I would trade for the iconic Sub, the quintessential Rolex.
Best of luck to whatever your decision may be.

It's never the last one. However ....
I feel for you. The grass is always greener.
I believe you have the better watch now. Plus, you've said it yourself. Your nod goes to the SD. I wouldn't care about the Iconic status of the Sub. For one thing, the watch is for you, so I would attach more importance to your thoughts than an ever variying and intangible 'icon status'. For another, the SD is arguably more iconic than the sub, and may well even become more so if Rolex rolls a new version out. After a few years pass, the 16600 may well become the most sought after Rolex. If you like the heft, if you like not having a plastic bubble over the date, then you would be best served keeping the SD IMHO. btw, I have a GmtII and am in love now, with the SD. I may have to sell the rest of my meager watch collection to get it, but I definitely want one before the rumor of the new model comes true. I hope you make a decision that gives you Peace !! Floyd |

Jon, please don't part with your SD!
The SS Sub Date is a nice watch, but you see it everywhere. Be a little more exclusive and keep your SD.

Keep them coming guys.
I don't have a problem with the SD, it's comfortable, I like the clean dial. I don't know really, I suppose if I could have the two that would be great, but I can't. One factor in its favour could be that I purchased the SD from an AD myself. That is I walked in selected put down the credit card and walked out with the watch and receipt. So I have complete peace of mind. Whilst there's no question about the Sub authenticity it was purchased in by the person I'm dealing with. But again as I said there's no issue with that. Its an opportunity thats arisen. I worked, saved hard for my current watch keeping in mind that my lifestyle situation does not include a two Rolex life or even going out and spending more on one.

Although the SS Sub is iconic, they are all over the place like echoed by frostie. My .02 would be to keep the SD, it is exclusive and you don't get to see one often.

Jon, please please (pretty please?!) KEEP your SD! You will regret parting with it!!
WHY'd you think the guy wants to do the exchange in the first place?? Because the SD is COOLER, that's why!

I value those comments, my current status as of 13:05 GMT is leaning towards keeping the SD, I have until 09:00hrs tomorrow to make the final decision. Plus once I've made that choice I don't want to be coming down this road again, which is the reason I'm taking advice. I'm lucky in some ways because the SD older style GMT and Sub are my favourites.

The real problem - is that you like both watches. Unfortunately, if you trade your SD for the Sub then you may regret doing so. If you keep the SD, you will still want a Sub. In school we were always taught that (statistically) our first answer is usually the correct one. With that in mind, you were drawn to the SD for a reason... so keep it.
Good luck! Let us know what you decide. Sean

I'm love Submariner. To me Sub is the best and iconic Rolex sport models after Daytona of course. But I think you must keep that SD. Because that SD you bought in new one, noone wear it before you. And you know the condition so well. But the Subdate, even the same series and date purchase is near that thing is not "new" when you get, pre-owned. So better that SD that you bought in brand new than Subdate pre-owned. Just my opinion, keep your SD.

Keep the SD.
I don't own either but have seen both close up. My dad has a Sub and I recently tried on the SD..the SD was my choice. The engraving on the case back alone is a cool difference between the 2. SD |

It's just a pity that Rolex chose to engrave the caseback of the Milguass, too. The engraving of the SD caseback made it very unique, until the Milgauss came.
