Age old Question - Coke or Pepsi???

The GMT tread has really gotten me in the mood to purchase one. I went to the AD yesterday and I was looking at the black/red (Coke) and the blue/red (Pepsi). What is your watch of choice?

GMT red black but even if you pick up the blue red which is not my favourite one to be honest you can still buy all the available bezel inserts and switch them when you feel like changing the look of your watch.

Personally, I'd prefer the Pepsi! But whatever model you buy, remember that you can buy either a Pepsi or Coke (or all-black bezel, for that matter) if you want to change the look of the watch later on.

I have the coke; it's become part of my right arm. Have had it for four months. Bought the black bezel insert at the same time my wife bought me the watch, but I just can't bring myself to change it yet. I love the black and cranberry color.

Since there are 3 insert options why not have all 3? Each has it's own personality. You can use them to dress up or get sporty. I love 'em all. Hard to come by for us Americans but you can find them. Hope to grab the coke insert while in London later this year.
Wearing this now,
dP

Pick wisely before you consider changing bezel inserts

I chose Pepsi for this poll, as I did when I purchased my GMT in March 2007. The Pepsi is a vibrant colour scheme, which is unusual in high end Swiss mechanicals.

Its as though by wearing this somewhat stand-out bezel insert, Rolex is giving me permission to wear bright colours in a watch that I might not be able to find anywhere else.

And the red-blue arrangement is a historical, horological icon, being created in the 50's to meet the needs of pilots flying in newly emerging airline companies that did the trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific flights. Pilots needed to be able to track two significantly different time zones at the same glance, and the GMT met this need. Since day/night were deliniated into red/blue--also the company colours of PanAm, who requested such a timepiece be designed--a quick glance at the watch told you your local time, and the time in the second zone, and if the second time was in day(red) or night(blue). And the ratcheting bezel could be used as a rough timer for parking meters, etc.

I own all three bezel inserts, and changed the Pepsi for the all-black last year, and in 2008 changed out the all-black for the burgundy-black (Coke).

As forum member and Rolex employee Ironstark commented, the bezel inserts weren't really designed to be changed with the seasons, and frequent changes could result in needing to replace a liner ring.

I'm wearing the Coke now and will likely not change bezel inserts more than once or twice a year, if that.

Pick the one you like best, and be happy with that, I would suggest avoid changing bezel inserts often.

If I could pick only one, it'd be the Pepsi in a heartbeat for the reasons indicated above.

Best of luck in your choice, let us know what you do,

Chris

Pepsi all the way, but as said above would get all bezel combinations to rid oneself of monotony.

Pepsi! That is where the history lies. The PanAm pilots didn't leave home without their Pepsi so why shouldn't I?

Over the 18 years of Rolex ownership I have owned all 3. You will find your taste change..right now I'm all pepsi due to the classic colors. I do drink Coke classic though.

Pepsi for me, but I do have a Coke as well, although technically it belongs to MrsJedi

A bit of topic but I'd just like to say... "Bring back lug holes" for the Professional references!

Thanks, Tim. That Rootbeer GMT was on my "Grail" list for quite awhile, until the right watch/deal came along. There is a lot to be said for patience!

No Tim, alas it has been discontinued!

But...that just means it will continue to gain in collector status!

I saw a RootBeer for sale for USD7,095 before discount. I didn't check the serial but it was at an ADs. Is that a good deal???

...If it is, this could become dangerous...

If they are not made anymore I would say it is a great deal! I don't think I could pass that one up.
