Service current SS Sub or trade towards TT Sub?
It’s time to service my SS submariner. I expect that the service, polishing, and a replacement crystal will run around $700. I’ve also been looking for a previously loved TT Submariner. Maybe I should use this opportunity to trade in my SS towards a TT. I would love to keep the SS and purchase the TT, but recent changes at home will only allow for one Rolex at this time. Economically it makes scene to me but I am afraid the TT may not be my cup of tea.
Any thoughts to help me decide? Thanks, Arron |

Well if you think that the TT will not be your cup of tea then stick with your sub. There is no reason to trade the watch if you thing that the TT watch will not make you happy Good luck with your decision

I think the SS Sub Date is a classic and if you're happy with it, keep it. If you absolutely love the TT and aren't too worried about scratches on the bracelet, then go for it. Rather than trade it in, I'd explore the option of selling it privately and using the proceeds towards the TT purchase. I think it would be more cost effective that way.

Maybe I said that wrong. I’m really drawing the TT. I originally was going to purchase a TT but decided on the SS instead. I love the gold and SS look. I’m sure I will like the TT.
But on the question of service vs. trade in has anyone else done this? |

Before selling it privately I feel that I should have it serviced. But it’s a fine line between losing money if I do that. I figure if I trade it the AD or Jeweler will have it serviced on their own dime.

I would work with my AD. Figure they need to sell new watches to keep Rolex happy, ask for 10% off on the TT and ask for $3500 trade for yours. AD have new buyers looking to buy used watches from them, they will service your watch in house and everyone would be happy. my 2 cents

Arron, go to your AD with your SS Sub on and try on the TT. If it's really what you want, you'll be $600 - $700 away from it if you get your current Sub serviced. You won't be able to recoup much of that on a sale or trade.

One watch is not a bad strategy. Personally I love the TT.

Buy the TT Sub and send the SS off for service. You'll have 2 great choices to wear. You'll have the best of both worlds. I have both. One day color, one day black and white...
P.S. I didn't see that price was a concern...I would upgrade the SS to the Sub (Blue). It is by far and away my favorite watch.

Keep the SS sub, it really is a true classic.
As for the the TT sub, I for one am waiting to see if they will ever give it the well deserved upgrades. |

I would just have the SS Sub Date serviced. Believe me, when you get it back from RSC you will be amazed by how new it looks. Just keep your Sub and enjoy it for another 5 years until next service is due, and then repeat the process.
