Date change on my GMT-IIc is acting really funny. Advice needed.
I got my GMT-IIc in the second week of January. A couple of times after getting the watch, I stayed up to see what time the date changed. Like many have reported here, the date would flipped over at 12:03:10. This was the case 2/3 times I saw it.
Well, last night, I grabbed the lady's DJ I bought for my wife and my watch to see what times they would change. At a few minutes after midnight the DJ had not yet changed, but the GMT-IIc looked like it was in the process. Interestingly, it looked like it was stuck a little bit. The "27" had moved downward and I could barely see the next date. The DJ switched to "28" at about 4 minutes after midnight. When I finally went to bed at 12:16, my GMT-IIc looked the same and had not yet clicked over to "28." When I woke up this morning, it was on "28." Is this a problem? What do you all recommend? Thanks in advance. |

That is not normal. The date should flip over instantly around midnight (typically minus 1 to 5 past 12). Sounds like your GMT IIc has an issue with the date wheel, but it should be an easily solved issue, so I suggest you take it to your Rolex-trained watch maker at your AD to have it fixed.

Is there any harm in me pulling the crown out to the second position and playing with it to see if I can recreate it? I plan to see what time it changes tonight. |

I put it in the second position to adjust the date. When I move the date forward, it flips over immediately when crossing midnight. When I move the date backwards, it does not flip over immediately, but instead, rolls backward. Is this a problem?

You can without harm try adjusting the date via the crown to see if it helps. It could also be a question of poor lubrication of the date wheel, btw.
If it is any comfort to you, my SS GMT IIc seems to have the date not centrered perfectly in the date aparture, but only from the 22th. or so. I will get it fixed when I get the time to have my AD send BOTH my SS GMT IIc AND my SS Daytona (fingerprint on the chrono hand!) to Rolex in Geneva like he offered me he would do.

I would wait and see what your watch does at midnight tonight. Good luck.

Does the date roll when you change the date backwards in the second position? Mine flipped forward quickly when I pass the midnight time moving forward, but will roll backward when going back. |

He also said that when turning the date back, that the date rolls backwards and does not flip immediately backwards like it does when moving the date forward. |

I think this is good advice, crimscrem. Keep an eye on it for a few days or a week or so, if it's not a problem to stay up that late that is, and go from there. If the problem is persistent, have it repaired under warranty. If it's not persistent, it probably wasn't a problem at all and just an abberation. Let us know how it turns out.
