New Sea Dweller or New GMT Pepsi ?

I have been surfing this site and and a little torn between the two. The problem is the misses says the SD looks like my Seiko (black monster), and the GMT Pepsi looks funny. Not that her opinion matters that much, but what is msrp on each and what are your thoughts ?

MSRP SD: $5375, GMT II Pepsi: $5075. You should be able to get discounts on both. If you don't like the Pepsi, you can switch out the bezel to coke or all black, and these can be bought through AD or eBay.

The 2 wear differently, and I suggest you try on both at an AD.

I would ask, what do you think? It's okay if your wife doesn't care for a particular watch, but you're the one who has to wear it. Both are excellent. Which one sings to you?

Hi Peter,

I have a SD and a GMT black/red and given the choice I would keep the SD every time. The GMTs have a good following and presence but you just can't beat the SD. It is the top of the tree in evolutionary terms as far as I am concerned.

Keep the Seiko Monster for those times when you are afraid of doing some real damage and wear the SD the rest of the time. Just my opinion.

I suggest you go for the Rolex that you like best.

But you cannot really go wrong since both watches are awesome.

I had a Black Monster for a few years. Great watch for a couple hundred bucks, but with all due respect to your wife...it doesn't look anything like the Sea-Dweller.
Since there are only a few hundred dollars difference in price of the SD and GMT Pepsi, don't let cost determine which you purchase. They are very different watches, so you will need to try them on to see which you prefer. If you don't need the multiple time zone functions of the GMT your choice should be easy

SD all the way. I don't think I've ever come across anyone saying anything negative about the SD besides it's too tall or heavy (which it's neither). This includes other brand forums.

You can't go wrong with either. Both scream classic Rolex. Try both on because they feel different on your wrist. Go luck and post pics when you bring one home.

They are both nice but have different strengths. The SD would be great if you need to be in water often while the GMT is a great travel watch. Which functions do you need more often? That will tell you the right decision.

Boy Peter, as other have said it's a tough call. Both references are possessed of great histories and were designed to meet the needs of a specific group. The GMT wears a bit lighter and has a multi time zone capability, but the SD is such an iconic professionals watch.

Try both and ask which would suit your needs the best----then get both. LOL!

I don't really see much of a comparison to a Seiko Monster but if you are used to wearing a Monster you might be disappointed with the size and presence of the GMT when compared to an SD or the Seiko. Just my .02.

I have both .. the SD I bought in Dec 07 and gmt master II pepsi in Jan of 08 ... when I pick up the SD, it is clearly the most massive .. feels heavier and looks like a freakin tool watch ... gmt master II by comparison feels much lighter ...almost weightless.... yikes!!!

recently, I couldnt decide but finally went with the GMT Pepsi and I cant be happier.
Nice good fit, not too bulky. I have not second guessed my decision.

I lean towards the GMT, but that is because I like the 24 hour hand and the GMT rides better on 6.5" wrists. I have a comparison posted at the link in my .sig file.

My wife thinks the same thing. That my SD looks like my old SEIKO divers watch I have kept for years. I have to keep reminding her that it is actually the other diver watches that have taken the rolex design features.

These photos say it all. That version of the GMT is great I'm really sad they have discontinued it. But The SD is just stonking.

I LOVE SD!It`s a REAL tool watch.If you`re not diver,perhaps you should go for Pepsi.It`s lighter and more comfortable on wrist and have second time zone hand.
But SD looks very tough and rough and got that "clear" look that much people appreciate...

Buy SD first and sell your Seiko Black Monster, so you have only one diver's watch. After that buy GMT Master II 16710!!! Problem solved!!!

But you should find which appeals to you the most.

Thanks for all the info people. I am a LEO and wear the Seiko day date monster all the time. I might be reluctant to wear a Rolex at work dealing with the scumbags I sometimes deal with. Some nice people too, don't get me wrong. I like the idea that the SD is heavier than the GMT. I have yet to feel and try on both. I guess the Seiko could go to a son and then I get the SD. Any other LEO's out there who wear a Rolex on the job ? Not behind a desk but on patrol.?
It still seems a tough call, they are both awesome time pieces.

Now that I know you are a LEO I would tell you to go with the Pepsi. Seems like it would be a better fit. (Unless you are a diver for the PD) Just my thoughts. Get whatever makes you happy. Good Luck deciding.
