Realistic discounts
I'm not sure how things are outside of the US, but I find that getting a good discount from an AD in the US is not that easy if an established relationship doesn't exist.
I often read people saying that you should get 10% on SS, 15% on two-tone and 20% off on all gold. I have yet to come across those type of discounts at any AD that I have visited. Maybe those discounts occur more on the dress models, but I have not seen it on the sport models. Has anyone in the US just walked into an AD and gotten those kind of discounts, especially on a sport model, without previously purchasing something from the AD? |

Yes. I got 8% and no sales tax (which is 9.25% here) on a GMT-c in July.(BTW, it was the first and only GMT-c they have recieved to date) I was a first time buyer. A couple of weeks later I got 12% off a TT blue that I bought for my dad. (again no sales tax). I then purchased a GMT II 16710 for another forum member with a 15% discount (no tax).

I was in a NJ AD just after New Year and was offered 10% off a GMT IIc without even asking. I know a fella who got a TT YM for 23% off. It all depends what part of the country you are in...supply and demand.
I might add that these figures were for paying cash. |

Paid MSRP for my LV....figured that was fair since they had it marked up over $6000 to start off. Wouldn't even budge on a pepsi GMT when I asked.....

I was at an AD on Saturday wanting to buy a Pepsi and they would not give me a discount. They said they will on any Rolex except the SUB and GMT. I walked out the door. I am going to try another AD next week.

This past summer I went to my local AD, told them what I can get a sub off the internet and they not only matched the internet price, but beat it!

Discounts on basic SS models are rare in Vegas.. They can sell them as fast as they get them in the display cases.
The more add-ons, TT, diamonds, etc., the more likely the price will be discounted..

I was offered 10% off on a Rose Gold Prince 5442/5 plus no sales tax... that comes out to 18.5% off, at $13,150 MSRP it adds up quick. |

Chain stores usually are difficult to get discounts. BB told me they don't discount the sports models. A mom and pop AD gave me 11% off on the SD and 16% off on the Ladies DJ.

I walked in to an AD here in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago as a first time buyer and bought a SS Sub ND and got a 10% socalled cash discount - and 10 mins later they allowed me to pay via credit card because it was Sunday and the banks were closed. I tried another AD a day earlier and they wouldn't even consider giving me a discount - they offered up a nice watch winder instead though.

When it comes to discounts, the chain stores are tough, BB won't even budge from my experiences. The mom and pop jewelers will hook you up....If you are looking for a particular watch, go through a fellow forum members AD and get the discount and pay no sales tax.

I had walked into the local AD (not a chain) and was immediately offered a 10% discount on Plat YM. Figured it was a sign, so I decided to take it off their hands.

The best discount I got in Denmark was 15 % discount on an SS Sub Date. Second best was 12,53 % on the SS GMT IIc.
I would like to have at least 20 % on a YG DD should I decide to buy one. I hope my AD accepts giving me this discount.

I guess it really depends on the area. I live in the Dallas area and there are 3 chains with 7 stores between them and 3 independent stores making a total of 10 ADs. Only one of those independents would come close to being a mom and pop store since the other two are quite upscale.
I pretty much have visited every single AD in the Dallas area. I haven't hit the ones in Grapevine or Arlington since those are further west, but you get the idea. Not once have I manage to get the 10%-SS,15%-TT,20%-G that others have come across. Is there too much money in Dallas when there is no need to discount much since there are plenty of buyers? I would think with that many ADs that there would be more competition, but not so. |
