Hello all.... your advice?

Hi! First post here... considering my first Rolex purchase ever, and would very much appreciate your input. I am trying to decide between two different looks:

1) Ladies' Datejust, SS/WG fluted bezel, jubilee band, dial with diamonds

2) Midsize Datejust, SS/WG fluted bezel, jubilee band, silver (rhodium) or white dial with no diamonds

I've tried on both watch sizes and they both look good on my wrist -- obviously the regular ladies size is more classic, while the larger midsize on my small wrist is sportier and definitely stands out more. Also, all my other watches (Cartier, Corum, B&M) are traditional small ladies' sizes so getting a larger Rolex might be a nice change.

Questions for the experts (you):

- Any opinions on which of the above two looks better to you on a woman's wrist? What would make you do more of a double-take? :-) (completely your call, it's a pure style question.)

- Is it just because I'm new to the Rolex world, or is it harder to find a preowned midsize than a preowned lady's size? There seem to be far fewer midsizes on the preowned sections of the sites I've browsed so far... does that mean they are less popular?

Welcome to TRF, Helen. I can only address the size issue of the two choices you have mentioned by relating it to my wife's Rolex. She has a TT Lady Datejust with Jubilee band. She loves it, and so do I. To me, it is the perfect size.

Unless you are very petite, I would go with the mid-size. IMHO the ladies versions are just too small. Not sure which would be easier to find, but I would not let that influence your decision. Once you decide which size fits you best, take your time and find it. Just be patient.

Hi Helen and welcome! Great to have another gal on the forum!

I'm a huge fan of the larger watches. In fact I have a couple of men's DJ models (36mm) that I adore. I'd say go for the larger case size. You will get used to it and love it!

As for the diamonds vs. no diamonds, you really can't go wrong. I used to be a bit put off by diamonds on a watch, but then I came to my senses and bought a diamond dial DJ (a month ago!)

Welcome. I would go with a 31mm mid-size DJ or a 34mm Date. The ladies model is to small and hard to read the time for some people.

I agree, Helen. I just bought my girlfriend a watch for Christmas (not a Rollie) and it is 32mm. I cannot get over how good that size looks on her and I'm so glad I didn't get her a more traditional, smaller ladies watch. I'm not sure what the case size for the mid-size DJ is, but I suspect it's around 32mm or so. My GF's wrist is probably about average sized for a woman.

Really, though, go with your gut and buy what feels right to you. Without pics, it's hard for us to give a real definitive answer. I will say that these days more and more women are wearing larger (not huge) watches, and I think they look fabulous.

Thanks Helen I LOVE them too I've had the white roman DJ since March'07....I bought the rhodium diamond DJ a month ago! I started yearning for a diamond dial.

There are so many combinations for a DJ that it's tough to choose - explains why I now have two ....but I am THRILLED TO BITS with them. Try on as many as you can and see what 'speaks' to you! Or 'sings'! LOL!

I would never have imagined I could have both, and I really feel very fortunate! I look forward to hearing about your purchase!

You won't find as many mid-size because there just aren't that many of them that have found their way into the mainstream..

Make sure you get one that you will still enjoy wearing a decade of two from now..

I for my part am fan of the midsize (or even MEN'S) Rolex watches on ANY female wrist, be it skinny or big. Lisa and Karis (KCMO), for instance, have some very nice examples you might want to look at (easily found by doing a search for their threads).

As suggested, find posts by Lisa. She bought a beautiful rose gold ladies size and soon after bought a mid size as she was having trouble telling the time at a glance.

Todays woman will be better off with a sportier size (32mm) Midi Rolex datejust, instead of the ladies size which is too small in my opinion and was worn by my grand mother back in the time..lol.
Unfotunately used midis go very fast but if you can wait I will get you one at the next watch show, so either a low priced NEW in box or slightly used I can be your best source.

My wife has a ladies WG DJ w/ diamonds and a beautiful MOP face. It is awesome...however, it just seems so small to me. I keep encouraging her to get (or at least consider) a mid-sized. One of her main problems is that the MOP is so beautiful and unique that she can't find that in mid-sized and she thinks the mid-sized is too big for her even though she is average size. I think mid-sized or even men's watches look good on women. I saw some magazine that had a bunch of super-models and celebrities wearing awesome men's watches. Maybe I was distracted.

As far as turning heads goes, for me it is the midsize. It is not only stylish but as Wolfgang mentioned, a more practical size. Remember, you already have watches in the traditional ladies size as a fall back. Good luck with your decision and repeat after me, midsize, midsize, midsize.
