Which serial number is which?
Hi,
I am an owner of a Z series SS Sub date for almost a year and have been reading this forum daily for five months. Something on my Sub just caught my attention suddenly today...there is a fine five-digit number on the inner clasp (say 12345) and this number is also reflected on the outer box. However this nmber is different from the COSC number say z567890. So can i verify with you guys that there are actually two sets of serial numbers, one for the watch and one for the COSC cert? Also can the COSC serial number which is say Z5678XX found on the watch at a visible section? Thank you Last edited by Welshwatchman; 30 January 2008 at 07:21 AM.. Reason: serial no XX |

Welcome to TRF!
Firstly, you would be wise to delete the last 4 numbers in the serial number (Z56XXXX) since forgerers can lurk here and use the REAL number for the counterfeit Rolex watches. Secondly, the code on the clasp is the reference number for the bracelet. Last, but not least, actually there is also a sort of serial number for the clasp that tells you when the CLASP/BRACELET on its/their own were made. Click here to read more about the clasp codes. Note that the date code for the clasp/bracelet can differ from the manufacture date of the watch itself. This is quite normal, so no worries. Enjoy your stay here, and please post a pic of your Rolex when you get the time.

Hi and welcome to TRF,
You can find the Serial Number which match the one on COSC on the watch case between the lugs at 6 o'clock side. Best regards, |

The serial number is engraved between the lugs at six o' clock UNDER the endpiece of the bracelet. In other words: you have to take off the bracelet at six o' clock to see the serial number.

Thank you so much, that is what I thought so. For a year, I can't help but to have a naggy suspicion at times that there is a very small likelihood that my Sub could be a fake despite buying from an AD as he had given me quite a good discount which is very rare for a sub. And now that I returning to get a TT Yachmaster with a champagne dial or a TT Bluesy Sub, i just want to confirm that things can't go wong wih an AD. Cheers

If you bought at an AD you are golden. No worries.

Oldham,
There is only one serial number for your watch and that is the one engraved on the side of the watch head, under where the bracelet attaches..as has been said. That number is unique to your watch and your watch only and is not visible anywhere else.. (except for the very newest models where it is engraved under the glass on the rehaut ring between the dial and crystal).. There is no serial number associated with a bracelet. All numbers on bracelets are part numbers or manufacture dates and will be the same for all like bracelets (manufacture codes will change) You have not given us anything that might raise suspicion.. Getting a good deal is hardly a reason to suspect so unless we're talking half price. Tell us why you suddenly think that yours might be other than genuine..

I got a Black Sub from an AD. Upon close inspection I realized the case and bezel had been marred where they are closest to touching, and that the watch had a late 90's dial. I called Rolex and they told me the watch was supposed to be blue. The fact of the matter is that even when you're dealing with an AD it's still buyer beware because Rolex can't check up on every single one of the retailers. Yes, it's true. I was at an AD in Sarasota recently. I looked at a TT DJ with interest, but finally decided that I didn't like the dial color. When I mentioned this as I was preparing to walk away, the salesperson told me he'd be happy to "swap" out another dial of my color choice and that it'd be ready in half an hour.
I instantly declined and left infuriated for two reasons: One, I want an original not-messed with Rolex, Two, now how do I know that another Rolex in the case has an original dial? Perhaps that one was swapped out for an earlier customer. Yikes, I'm now likely to just special order and insist that the box not be opened until I'm present...
