Do not eat your GMT

An interesting little article here about suspicions over Radium dials in the first GMT Masters, published December 22, 1959 in Singapore's Straits Times newspaper.

pretty funny!!! I believe the GMT model they are referring to is the Rolex GMT 6542 with the Bakelite bezel. As i understand it, Rolex was actually sued back in the early 1960's and as a result ( per legend ) started to replace this bezel with a metal fitting one like the ones on a 1675. Between that activity and the fact that these bezels were very fragile and often cracked or broke, there are not too many good examples left in circulation.

Are you saying the bezels broke down due to repeated digestion?

So Radium was painted onto the bezels as well as the dials?

I am so glad that this issue is resolved. I don't own a GMT, but now I know that it's not safe to eat a vintage one.

I guess if I see one in the "For Sale" section:
I am asking the seller if it is edible or I'm not buying

Overheard in a local AD:

"Thank you for your business, sir; shall I put that into a bag?"

No thanks, I'll eat it here..."

How do I get one of those $240 stainlees steel GMT's or a $600 gold GMT? I'll take the risk at those prices!
