Thanks Micky. I found the clip quite informative. Nice to see the watchmaker having so much respect for Rolex quality.

Worthy of a sticky.

Interesting comment at the 10:00 mark - for those who think an open crown is not important to water resistance...

Perhaps this + a few threads from the reference library should be knitted together into a TRF syllabus for new members. Might be enlightening

"Screw down the crown" - hopefully a lesson I'll never have to learn the hard way! Very informative video.

Great video! Just one question, he said that the estimate for servicing is 3-5 years because of the life of the lubricants. Do the lubricants expire because of use or just time?

Asking because I have two watches in a bank box.

If I understood correctly...he said the Deepsea needs to go back to Rolex Switzerland for proper pressure testing, am I correct? I asked this question a while back but didn't really come to a conclusion. I asked my local RSC (Beverly Hills) and was told they can do it locally but I kinda have doubt because as far as I know, these special testing tanks are in Geneva only.

Duration 3 to 5 years, wearing it or not.

Yes, the Deepsea would need to go to Switzerland so it could be tested correctly with the more heavy duty equipment needed for the extreme depth.

Thanks for the link

As for the servicing I'm not sold on the 3-5 year lifespan of the lubricants !

Obviously we do need to factor in oil migration and contamination but this is more down use over a set time period rather then time itself.

And bet there are a few precious metal models sitting in AD's windows around the country around that age and I can't see them sending them off for service before sale !

I called RSC Dallas today, they told me it's done locally and they don't send anything to Geneva....this is the same thing Beverly Hills RSC told me. So, I don't know anymore...
