Best way to buy a brand new GMT IIc?

Is it ok to ask where to find the best deal? Or you can share your experience with me? Any tip? For example, go to the duty-free shop in Seattle-to-Canada border to get the best price...ETC

I have decided to go for my first Rolex and I decided to buy a GMT IIc (unless there is a newer version of it?) I am totally new to Rolex and that's why I am spending a lot of time reading and learning from this forums.

I have a few questions as I am very new.
1. Is GMT IIc still increasing in re-sell value? Where to get an idea about how much it goes up or down?
2. Is GMT IIc going to come up with a newer version soon? I would not like to know that a newer/better version releases one month after I have bought mine...

Thanks guys! All your commends will be much appreciated!

Welcome to TRF!

Resale value is a decreasing number for mass produced model like GMTs
No new model for another year.

Check the trusted sellers here for a BNIB GMT-IIc and save some $$$ over the AD.

Thank you so much for your reply. Could you tell me in detail how I can find the trusted sellers here and especially their AD?!?!

I think I know where to find the sellers. Is it here?

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=316819

Also, I just realized that the GMT IIc I want in black in stead of black/blue. Does it mean that the full black version is the older version and it will prob be harder to find a brand new one? What is its full name with SKU number? Thanks!

Duty Free doesn't mean that it is free duty for you.. It means that the Shop didn't pay any duty and the price may be less than in-country. The Duty-Free watch must be removed from the country you bought it in and proper duty paid at your home country (or when you re-enter)

1. No, the GMT is not really increasing or decreasing in terms of real dollars. You seldom can buy one and turn it around within the next few years and make money unless you buy at a very good price. Then, of course, you need to find somebody who will buy it at your "inflated" price.

2. No, they are not going to come up with a "better" GMT... Yes, they will be newer.... anything bought after you buy yours will be "newer".

If you feel that you have to have the latest and greatest every year, you are going to be spending quite a bit of your disposable income..

I purchased my GMTIIc from a trusted seller in the classifieds here (Oscar). Great experience..

I transferred the funds over after a few emails... he sent me the tracking number shortly after, received the watch in a triple box packaging the next business day. I saved about $1500 on the purchase price. I could probably resell for the same price or make a few $100 extra...

You will lose Rolex warranty if the warranty card is not in your name if I understand correctly. One RSC service visit and you are 1k in the hole!

Warranty card is not in my name, but I did have receipt from RSC for recent service on the watch, I believe it was at 3rd year of ownership. If I understand correctly, the RSC only adheres to 2 yr warranty anyways. I've elapsed that and received a like-new, recently serviced watch...

The warranty card does not need to be in your name. Rolex Canada in Toronto honors it during the first two years. And all Rolex service is not $1000. Rolex adjusted my DJ II free of charge. They asked if it was less than four years old. No warranty card even provided.

Like most any current Rolex the GMT will not be a rare collectible. The future holding value will largely be based on having bought it right to begin with, and the continued ability of Rolex to raise their prices. If history is any indication, they've been very successful at this, but past performance might not be indicative of the future. In any event, you would be upside down for years with any model really. In 10+ years, if your watch is in good condition and the MSRP of the GMT is $20K, your watch will likely be worth what you paid for it, maybe more. Who knows what that actually means in terms of present value though.

I bought mine BNIB with warranty through a trusted seller here. Got the best price by far and saved the sales tax.

Welcome. If you are worried about resale value buy pre owned.
Rolex a lot like a new Range Rover let someone else take the first hit.

Same can be said for buying bnib box from a grey dealer kinda like buying a demo.

In the end how important is it to you to go thru an AD Vs going grey or trusted seller

I suggest you buy your first Rolex from an AD. It will relief any of your worries. After that, buy from a trusted seller.

Id buy from a Canadian AD as the discounts are pretty reasonable on that watch and you wont run into customs issues.

Also helps build a relationship with an AD which helps if you want the plan on buying other watches in the future.

I put a deposit on a new BLNR but had always had my eye on a TT GMT2. While waiting for its arrival to the AD, I discovered TRF and the trusted sellers here. I got my deposit back and bought my TT here from Tony. Saved lots of money and got exactly what I wanted. Take your time, do your research and you'll make the right decision for you.

Can someone tell me what is the best way to know if this seller is trust worthy to send bank wire before they ship out the watch? How do I double check their credibility? Thanks!

Not necessarily true, it depends. A TT will almost always resell for more than SS because it cost more when it was new. So whether a TT or SS has better resale value comes down to buying it right. I do agree that at MSRP the TT is not as good a buy but you can usually get a bigger discount on the TT. And keep in mind that in either case (SS or TT) you are probably upside down for at least the next 5-10 years.

Do you think a TT buying at 12% of MSRP a good deal? thank you for your comments and it helps...

It's OK for an AD that you don't have a relationship with, but it's probably not the best discount any AD has ever given a consumer on that watch. A lot depends on how long that particular AD has had the watch - if he just got it in as opposed to it's been sitting there for a while.

And there are other ways to buy it for less AND save 8ish% on the sales tax, like from a trusted seller here. But I realize many first time buyers are not comfortable going outside the AD network.

20% off on a brand new TT from an AD is a good deal
