Buying new, worth it?

Hello TRFers, sorry for making Another thread regarding the 116610LVc. I finally locate a deal to get a 116610LVc, they have used one and new one.

The used one is from 2011 and the new one is a random serial number. The price different is around 1500$ between the used one and the new one.

I dont really know which way to go, what do you Think?

I always like someone else to take the initial deprecation hit whether watches, cars, motorcycles, boats, etc, but I can understand people who want to be the original owner.

New vs used is such a personal decision. New is always better, used is always cheaper.

Personally for me, for watches that hold their value well like particular watches from Rolex or Patek, I prefer new. For watches that take a huge hit in the secondary market, I like to go used if possible.

Well the used one could be a random too and there is nothing special about a random serial, its just a bunch of numbers and letters .At the moment we have a single letter G serial plus the random running in the same time frame. And all that these serials can tell us the watch cases both G and Random were stamped sometime from the latter part of 2010 till present time.So if the 2011 one is a G serial its possible its newer than the random new watch.Myself if its a G serial or random would buy the used one and save a bit of cash.

Depends on condition.

As you can tell by reading TRF, many Rolex owners baby their watches so much there is virtually no difference between their used and new...

Here's my .02. I have always bought new until a week ago when I bought pre owned from a TRF seller. The pros to used is I haven't worried for one moment about that first scratch because it already has it! The con to used is that somebody else made some memories with it and it wasn't mine from the start. Price isn't a factor because I can buy new from an AD at around 20% off retail.

I would prefer to buy new but have no problem buying used.

Does the used one comes with the Chromalight blue luminescence?
Not sure if the new LVc all comes in blue… If not, then definitely a new one!

If you buy the new one. Then you put it on your wrist. It is now used and worth at least $1500 less. Get the used one.

If you can purchase a brand new Rolex for 20% off of retail prices from an AD, buying used would be more expensive from a TRF seller. I can't help but think you're exaggerating your claimed discount.

Is the watch for some special occasion, like new job or some accomplishment?
In that case I would buy NEW because to me it would always be connectect to that occasion. I bought my Explorer II new knowing full well that I could have saved EURO 500if I had looked harder for a used one.
But I wanted it new to go with the achievement. This one will be forever the first Rolex I bought, not the one I inherited when my dad passed away.

If I were to buy another Rolex I would consider new, like new, second-hand, pre-owned, pre-loved or whatever some enterpreneur will call them.

Regards

You are free to think what you like

I bought my 116710 for 7450 out the door so what you figure that is? How about a DSSD for 9300 out the door? Why gee I'm just a dumb country boy.

Personally it all depend on how the price variance?? If the saving is at least $1500-2000 ....oh yeah I would definitely get a pre-owned. BUT let's face it a lot of the pre-owned are SOLD not much difference than a brand new. (yeah maybe $200-500 at most....so I would just get a brand new...less hassle and peace of mind). For example: how much a used BLNR sold in this forum or some pre-owned dealers??? probably between US$8600-$8900? (which is about AUS$9000)?? You can buy this straight from the AD locally brand NEW at AUS$9000! So it all depend on price and value.

I have purchased both ways and prefer thru an AD for peace of mind, authenticity, service, warranty card without issues and a descent discount.

As far as I have seen some pre-owned sellers, do sell with the remaining balance of the warranty (of course if still left any??) And I have known some that even offer their own warranty. (big dealers or watchmakers)

If you buy the used watch, will you always wonder why the original purchaser decided not to keep it?
