Flip DJ for a JJ Platty?

As some of you know I bought my first Rolex, a 116234 in December and then bought a GMT II this month. The GMT has been getting all the wrist time until last night when I put on the DJ to go out. I actually caught myself checking to see if I had the watch on after wearing it for about 15 minutes. Seems I had gotten used to the additional weight and size of the 16710 and now I'm not sure what to do? I planned to wear the GMT daily and the DJ for dressy evenings out or what have you, now I'm not sure. As I mentioned in an earlier thread I tried on a SS/Platinum YM and really liked it. Should I consider flipping the DJ and going for the YM, or would you guys suggest wearing the DJ for a few days to see how I feel after that. This forum is dangerous.

If you think that a yachtmaster will make you happy then go for it. The SS/plat is definetely a great looking watch. I was never a huge fan of datejusts but i have to admit that there are some datejsut combos that i like.

I love Platty, but I think the DJ is more of a traditional dress watch, and if that's what you need, I'd stick with that. But, if the size of the watch is bothering you, it may be time to jump.

I'd think after a while you'd get used to the smaller size of the DJ, just like you got used to the larger size of the GMT.

I say wear the DJ for a few days and see if you 'adjust'...if you still feel like you've outgrown it and are sure you won't miss it, then by all means get another sports model.

I got used to the GMT II C size and when i tried on the ND sub yesterday i wanted to laugh cause it looked so tiny on my wrist. Although both of the watches seem to be 40mm

Why not save for the YM? You lose money on flipping the DJ. Just wear you DJ until you have the money for the YM.

Agree - I think you'll get used to the weight difference really quickly. Make sure you don't flip and regret!

I like Bo's suggestion of saving for the Platty.

I'd say don't Flip it.

The fact the DJ has hardly changed in 50+ years says it all: It's a classic design and probably still will be when you get to hand it down.

We have seen many posts here about someone selling a watch and then 6 months, a year down the road they regret it and wish they could get it back. Your best bet is to keep the DJ and then go and get the YM.

Hi Buz,

I do feel honoured, but flipping the DJ at this stage would incur some losses to you.

Try and sell the DJ privately first.....and once you do so, then get the Platty.

The Platty at 146 grams is heavier than the GMT-II by almost 20 grams, so you will have some heft to contend with.

Good luck - JJ

Thanks to all for the advice. I think I will wear the DJ for a few days as many suggested and then reassess my feelings. I just read the new YM thread and looking at Jocke's and JJ's pictures I know that one is in my future. Again, thanks everyone.

Good call, Buz. Several of us here have larger sports watches and much smaller vintage watches as well. It does take a bit of adjustment when putting on a smaller watch after wearing a heavy sports model, but that passes. I'd think you'd get great satisfaction in wearing the DJ, one of the iconic Rolex models.

Thanks to everyone. I've worn the DJ now for the last two days and have fallen in love with it again. Glad I didn't do anything rash. Bo, you've got the right idea. Now I've got a new goal.
Thanks again,
