Is the AD's name stamped on the Card? If not it is a double open card, if so, it is just a open warranty card.

If the seller is offering it to you blank, by all means take it blank. I have often seen that many sellers state the card is blank, but once you get it, it has your name on it. This ensures that you get the full two year warranty. I would clarify this before purchase.

The only watch I have with open papers, was old & worn enough for Rolex to know that it was year past the 2 year warranty. I would suspect, that if you filled out the card that the warranty would be honored....if it was within reason.

Realistically, Rolex offers a 2 year warranty knowing full well that their watch will perform flawlessly for the next 6-8 years. If it were a vintage watch, it could affect value, but a current model, not really. If the card comes to you blank, leave it blank IMO, if it comes to you filled out, again, not a big deal.

The only valid warranty is one given to the buyer at the time of purchase and with the card filled out at that time by an Authorized Dealer, as specified in the Warranty Terms of Agreement.

You cannot "warranty" the watch at a later date..

Larry, I've often wondered how Rolex would check this if the card comes blank to the owner with an AD stamp. I've never sent a watch in for service, one would think if the owner presented the card to an RSC for service that Rolex would honor it...again, within reason. If they require a receipt, what is the point of the warranty card.

My cards have the AD's name printed on the card and the AD fills your name in by hand.

When any new watch is sold there is a bar code that the AD swipes and that registers with Rolex when that watch was sold and the AD that sold it.

According to what you are saying I should not buy a BNIB watch from sellers on the forum, since they are not authorized dealers and cannot fill out the warranty card.

I don't think it matters whose name is on the card if it needs servicing within the warranty period. People buy and sell watches everyday and don't get a new card with the current owners name on it. That's just silly.

No, I am not telling you where you should or should not buy your watch from - that is up to you.. I am telling you what is "legally" defensible and valid.

Rolex does know Gray Market codes and their Dealer system. Bringing in a dodgy card may trigger a request..

In any event, here at TRF we cannot and do not condone illegal activities or how to "game the system" to screw Rolex (or customs or whomever) for our own gains.

People just have to know that buying used or from a non-Authorized Dealer simply does not provide them with a valid warranty and attempting to get free work done under warranty (without a proper AD purchase) is going to be a risk.

As long as the card/paper has a official AD stamp any other name is of secondary importance or even left blank. As Rolex will know when the watch was sold and what AD sold it. The owners name is not all that important as the watch could be bought by a third party as a gift for someone else.

That sums it up. Thanks Padi for that clarification.
