GMT 11c, and an older one to trade question?

So I was offered 3 grand for my old 2002 GMT as a trade in for the New 2008 50th aniv. GMT, but my questions is any GMT made (I think) after 2005 was sold for about 5000 grand.... what's me from saying that it's a 2005 because they are the same watch? Saw one in the case that day and couldn't tell the difference Are the ADs just sending them out and refurbishing them and charging the 5 grand for the same watch? I don't mean to be cheap but what's up? Am I getting ripped off? Thanks all...Love Rolex and just naive help.

There was a post earlier with a similar situation.

Basically to recap. Trade-in is never the way to go. I believe you should be able to get $500 more from a private sale. Not to mention, they're probably not giving you a great discount on the new one.

In regards to what would stop you from saying it's a 2005. The serial number on your watch is a tell tale sign that yours isn't a 2005. Not to mention, I'm sure you have higher standards than doing something so stupid.

Also, the one in the case is probably "old" new stock. A few dealers still have the older models in stock.

I agree! And trade deals are seldomly good. Better sell it privately and get a decent price for it.

There are differences between a 2002 GMT and a 2005. Lug holes on the case and no LEC [lazor etched crown] to name two. Does that make a 2K difference? Shows how much they markup their used watches. They'll make a profit on the trade in and the sale of the new GMT IIC. Certainly nothing wrong with making a profit but you can do better selling your GMT yourself.
Good luck,
dP

Hey thanks guys, and it's true I did say to both places I went that it was a 2002 GMT. I'm not a good liar, just was trying to make a point. This site rocks... anymore input would be great. John
