Need Sub half link?
Hi all,
For the last twelve years I've only owned two watches.... An Explorer II and a Sub, both SS with black dials, one a gift from my passed away father, one which was his. Unfortunately, the Explorer isn't so easy for me to wear... I have quite small wrists. While I could get both to fit out of the box, it required removal of all "normally removable" links and setting the pins on the clasp at the smallest setting possible. Unfortunately, this resulted in a much shorter band section above the wrist (when viewing the watch) than below, and made the watch face hang off the back of my wrist. I eventually removed one of the non-removeable links from "below" (again while viewing the watch) the watch face on each watch. This made the sub perfect, and the explorer near-perfect....Well on the forum now to ask for advice on how to get things right with the EXP II. The Sub works because the final link nearest the claps is essentially a "half" link. The EXP II has a full size final link instead meaning that I have to compensate on the back site of the bracelet via the adjustment pins. The problem is that, if I move the pins to make the watch fit right, the back/bottom edge of the clasp touches the bracelet in the MIDDLE of one link, making for a weird "lever" action on that link which again pulls the face back off the edge of my wrist.... Difficult to explain, but see the photo below. If I move the pin adjustment out one more, the clasp edge sits in just the right spot, but this makes the band too big. First photo is of the EXP II band where you can see that the clasp edge sits in the middle of one link, instead of between two. Second photo is of my Sub's "half-link". I'm thinking that, if I could find one of those half-links...or buy one straight from Rolex, it would make the band just right....I could move the pin so the clasp edge sat between two links, and I could shorten the bracelet on the "bottom" side. However that link appears to be riveted to the clasp....would I need to send in to Rolex for that? Anyone have any advice here? This is really frustrating. Should I buy the sub half link? Any other options? Thank you and sorry for the wordy post. Brett |
