It's probably a custom-made dial. For the owner, this watch was very likely very special. Not my cup of tea, though, but to each his own.

Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder

It's a collector's though, I remember reading about it. I could see some soccer or "football" fan wanting one, BUT I certainly don't think it is as classy as the "bowtie" Rollie...

Kew A's and now this photo... you got a new book David

I have them both also, I knew it was in one of the unauthorized books...

Enjoy them, both are very informative, price data is a little old.

I would like to know the history first. It looks old. Maybe it was given to the winning team of the World Cup (Soccer) in the 30's or something cool like that.

I was told by my father that back in the 70's Rolex produced custom-made dials for the Saudi royal family with King Faisal's image. I have always wanted to see a picture of one. Custom dials are always interesting....

Quite true and for the varius Sultans like Oman these watches now command telephone number money. In 1970, Qaboos bin Said Al Said ousted his father and has ruled as sultan of Oman ever since. The British (SAS) and several Arab Nations sent well-trained forces to assist the Sultan, and the rebels were defeated. Legend has it that the Special Forces suffered heavy losses, and only 7 Special Forces Officers survived. As a token of his appreciation, Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said presented them each with a Rolex Sea Dweller ref 1665 with the Nations Coat of Arms printed on the dial in Gold. Also several Local Officers were presented with a Rolex Sea Dweller ref 1665 with the Nations Coat of Arms printed on the dial in Red. I am not sure how many of these were issued.

Many middle east sultans had there coat of arms added to Rolex watches, in fact there is a special department in Rolex H/Q to oversee these matters.During the 1970s and 1980s it was not only Subs and Sea-Dwellers. They came in Presidents, Datejusts , Dates, turongraphs, and Airkings. Back in that era it was quite common for the Middle Eastern Kings to display their names and Family and counties Symbols all over watches, cars etc to these people money was know object.

Unfortunately due to the rarity and the huge demand of these watches from collectors and investors, many fake dials watches have appeared in the market place. The only true way to check if you have a genuine Oman Rolex is a movement and serial check with Rolex. What the emblem of Oman shows is a Gambia (Arabian dagger with sheath) in front of two crossed curved swords, covered with an arms-belt.

Picture from Allan = Prince.

Well... I like it. (The noble game of football). I've seen one with a Domino Pizza dial and that is really gross. Restore it and you have a very, very rare piece. With, like Peter said, a telephone number price tag. I also like the Subs with military dials. Also rare

It doesn't look like a bubbleback.
Either way, there's no accounting for taste!

Hello,

You can see one custom dial ordered by the Royal Saudi Arabia family (see my threads).
