Incredible story.

Living near the Great Lakes in the US, I can't help but think of those who perhaps were in this situation, and help never arrived. What a terrible thing to contemplate. The Edmund Fitzgerald comes to mind.

Saw that this morning on the Today show. Man that diver must have just freaked out when that hand reached out and grabbed his hand. Unbelievable that man lived for so long in the small confined area without a source of fresh air. Truly a miracle.

What would be going through your head in the pitch black with water up to your chest.
And for 3 days.

You'd just hope you were wearing your Sub!

Amazing story. Really lucky they had a recompression chamber close at hand. At 30m, the air would have been dense enough it would be like breathing nearly 100% oxygen, but that is still amazing that there was enough to keep him alive in such a confined space and that he wasn't overcome with hypercarbia. (Increased carbon dioxide) That is usually the killer in these situations.....that and hypothermia.

I can't imagine what it must have been like to be down there for 60 hours.. not knowing if you'll see your family again... not knowing if you'll live or die. I can only imagine the joy of seeing the divers come his way. The divers also must have been happy to find someone alive down there.

Something I read about a USN sub that partially sunk noise down with a small tail of the sub sticking out of the water bobbing about. The sub was dead in the water, sitting vertical for days until someone spotted it and found the crew was still alive. This was when subs were just getting started.

and people want their own book deal and reality show (and handouts) when they "survive" the loss of hot water for a few hours. Kinda makes everyone who claims to be "the worlds toughest...." or to take part in "extreme...." seem like a wet blanket.
