Difference in dial for the Jumbo H and I series?
Is it confirmed by AP that the dial on the H series is light blue and the I is darker blue?

Not sure if it's been confirmed by AP or not, but it sure looks like it from pics in other threads on this topic.
The 40th is still on my hit list! |

That is my understanding. I have not seen an H & I together, but I would call the Boutique in Singapore and see what they say.

I know there's always a slight variation in hue between dial production runs but I hadn't heard that there was an official color change.

I understand that AP has made some minor improvements to the dial, particularly the AP logo at 6 o'clock to enhance the performance of the watch when the hour hand passes above it. Also understand that there were some production issues in between which resulted in subtle changes in the dial appearance between the earlier batch and recent batch of jumbos.
See illustrations below: A H-series shot in Feb 2013 My I-series shot in Dec 2013 Some differences observed: 1. I-series has a denser "tapisserie" pattern on the dial. 2. I-series uses a different font for "SWISS MADE", which looks nicer IMO. 3. I-series has a wider AP logo, with a larger spacing between the A & P. I like the thinner AP logo on the H-series better. 4. There's a slight difference in the hue of the blue dials. I prefer the I-series one. Whichever version it is, the jumbo is still a winner! Wayne |

I have them both in my collection.
I bought H series and using it for almost 1 year. Than I bought also I series while ago.. It is still with the stickers. According to the Turkish distrubutor, AP says that that dark blue dial was produced only a small lot and light blue one will be the dial for the future production. I put some pictures for comparision..
In case it is true, what you guys are thinking ? That dark blue dial becomes a kind of "limited edition ?? |

I can barely tell the difference. Must be color blind I think both are equally enticing and nice.

From my research, the dial variation isn't categorized by the series letter, rather production date.

I had the chance to see up close and personal the H-series and I-series of the Jumbo at different times. Somehow, I have the impression that the I-series is better finished, ie more shiny, more bright. Not by a wide margin, but noticeable. Granted I do not have the chance to compare them side by side. I wonder if anyone has got this impression?

As Waynes pics clearly show, You can see a difference in the dials, the tapisserie of some, 40th anniv Jumbo's, will have 8 vs 9 ~blocks, counting right from the center of the dial to the inside edge of the date window. Or moving left from the center to the 9 oclock marker 7 vs 8 blocks. In essence it seems the more recent production have increased the number, density, of blocks on the dial. More in line with the earlier Jumbos finer dials. Just to add, although i have the denser dial on my watch, it is accompanied by the AP of the earlier example in the pics, showing less space between the letters...it appears each component may be a bit random?

Its really interesting to see these differences between dials.
My one is an I series but seems to have the dial and AP logo from the H series but the Swiss Made font from the I. Seems pretty random with which combination you end up with. All stunning watches whichever way they turn out. |

Here are two shots of my I series. I can tell you this dial changes colors drastically and everything depends on lighting and angle of shot. I have seen many photos and if there is a color difference I certainly can't tell. What I can say is I am clearly glad I have the latest series and to be a Jumbo owner in general!
