My sea-dweller!!!!
I just found an old picture of my E serial SD. I bought it years ago, but sold it last year for a few reasons. First, the watch was thick, and everyone around me noticed its presence. Also, it was hard to tuck under a dress shirt. People in business meetings were always commenting on it…"Wow is that a Rolex". Even a guy wearing a Patek Calatrava once told me that i'm wearing a nice watch during a meeting. I was like (to myself), "You bastard, you get to be stealthy with your Calatrava, and i'm over here parading my watch. LOL"
Another time my boss came to my office, and he was wearing a 45mm planet ocean. He asked me if i'm wearing a submariner. I told him it's a SD. He said, "Oh nice, i wish my watch wasn't so big, it really annoys me sometimes." In other words, he was telling me that he wished he had my watch. Needless to say, I did not like this type of attention, and sold it when i got the chance. The new watch i had in mind was the Explorer II, and i bought a beautiful example with a black dial, and am still very content with it. I have to admit though , there's something that i do miss about submariners. I can't quite comprehend it, but something is telling me to get the 14060M. I figure it's not as chunky as the SD, doesn't have a date window, and would satisfy my urge for a nice diver. The second contender is the 36mm Explorer. It's now becoming the second by far, as i grow more and more fond of the no date Sub. Any thoughts? |

The 14060M is a solid watch and flies under the radar in my opinion because of the lack of date and cyclops! I say go for it.....you won't regret it!

Who really cares about what other people think?!? Don't have a problem with mine tucking under a shirt. I always appreciate compliments whether it be my car, clothes or watches. To each his own I guess.

I like the SD, but love the sub for its simplicity and lightweight comfort on the wrist. It doesn't get any better from that point of view in a modern Rolex diver than the 14060/m. Go for it!

I have a SD and love it, but it is a bit bulky. Try the 14060 for a slimmer, lighter feel on the wrist.

Go for it. I recently had to decide between the SD and the 14060M. I decided on the 14060M. The SD is a great watch, just not for me. I really appreciate how understated the 14060M is and the thinner case fits my small wrist much better. Hope this helps, good luck.

Sounds like you need a dressier watch, like a DJ2, as well as a more rugged sports watch. Personally, I wouldn't wear the DSSD in a formal business situation. I guess the Explorer would work but it doesn't do anything for me. I'm buying the DSSD but, only for personal time or casual days.

My SD shares daily driver duty while at work. In the 100's/1000's of business meetings I've attended in the last 20 years I can only recall a handfull of times when anyone has mentioned my watch. Most times someone who I would learn also appreciated watches would pull me asside after the meeting and complement the watch, I've also done the same in a 1 on 1 setting. Only one time has there been an uncomfortable situation, but that was just his personality and his own team was embarrased by his comments. Any SS Rolex sports watch, whether Sub, SD, EXP, GMT, etc. is business appropriate IMHO. I do not however wear my 2-tone blue Sub at work.

I sold my GMT-IIc for the exact same reason... Brought on tons of unwanted attention.. My 14060M has not sparked a single conversation!
