Show Your Period Correct Bevels!

Hi All, it's been done before - but not in 2014!
I LOVE to see vintage cases that retain their original design - with period correct bevels/chamfers and flat sharp lug holes.
Original or expertly redone - lets see some lug shots
Below are mine (in order)
  • 1601 - 3.1m circa 1971
  • 14060 T - circa 1996
  • 1680 - 5.2m circa 1978
  • 18038 - circa 1988 (recently departed)

Good post Russ and GREAT watches

Here's my 5513, just back from a light case detail. All credit to Dalton and the boys at ABC.

Russ, Nathaniel, and John beautiful watches to go with a great thread. Sadly Rolex lost this artistic feature of their watch cases long ago. Here are a few of mine. From a very raw, read that as case wear, MN 79, to a mid 70's 1680/8, and finally a 5512 from '62, you can see why so many collectors are passionate about these watches.

Fat bevels but a lot of wear on my Tudor PCG.. Nothing to compete with against the above examples but I really like this one.

Here's my recut GMT.

This one of course without bevels but with nice clean lugs and sharp edges.

bevels - letme join the party train

Big or smalll, recut (correctly) or orginal, I love them all. BUT, unmolested originals still have a special place on my wrist.

From early 80's thin chamfer/bevel

To mid 60's wide prominent chamfers:

Another mid 60's gilt:

To the early matte GMT 1675:

John, you'll like this old Submariner 6205 from around 1957. I had this in my hands a few years ago and didn't pull the trigger on it. This is from a time period when chamfers were all the rage!!!

Looks awesome. They sure don't make them like they used to.

the 5513 has had some sympathetic polishing but the original chamfers are still very much in evidence, 1675 is from 1970 and is unpolished and the SM300 from ´66 also unpolished and shows what happens when bevels take over!!

Great thread guys with some amazing watches

Thanks John - there are some real beauties pictured here, yours being prime examples, of course. It's a shame the new ones don't have chamfers, as I think it's not only beautiful, but a clever way of protecting the case, somewhat, by deflecting knocks. A 90-degree corner is just asking to be dinged! Oh well, one of the many reasons to love vintage

Great watches and shots everyone! Interesting to see how the cases evolved over the years. Makes me appreciate the vintage side.
