I'm going to guess it all depends on what kind of deal you get to begin with. I'd say its worth about the same in 5 years, but more in 10 or so. Especially if rolex keeps raising prices or if precious metals go up. I wouldn't think it would be a great investment from a strict financial standpoint

If you want to buy platinum there are many ways to invest in the commodity..

I don't think any new watch is a great investment but it sure looks and feels great and if bought right will hold it's own and don't expect flooded market with them given price.

i dont think any mass produced product represents a good investment ,,,, but its as good of way as any in spreading the risk of total bank melt down
i think pre owned . bought well , wont loose money ,,, but thats not the same thing as a good investment.

Worth less than $75,000 in five years even if new in the plastic.

This doesn't mean I wouldn't buy it if i had the liquid funds available. It is a fantastic watch that will retain a significant amount of value. Put $75k in real estate. Absolutely should be a better long term investment.

Head says: £52400 rrp can be had brand new from grey dealer around 40-42k£ I'd say its one quick way to burn £12k in an instant - a dealer would buy it for even less so expect to be offered around £35k if your lucky. It's not an investment piece but it is a great watch to wear and own - a stunning watch in person if you buy at right price absolutely but not at full rrp for investment at least.

I m very confident that it is ,don t think it will be sold more than 4-5 years,if you can get with a 20-25 percent discount it s a very safe/solid investment.

Yeah the platinum daytona is still too high volume a watch as an investment piece really need one at around £25-30k for it to be a solid investment

Beautiful watch but if we all wanted to make money we would have started a unused collection in the 50, 60 & 70's when Subs and other Rolex pieces were cheap.... Prices are so high these days you will never see what vintage pieces are selling for today!

I seriously doubt that anyone back when those watches were new, ever contemplated their future values and called them "investments".

Anyone can find items that have appreciated by looking at historical data.

In addition the OP asked about a holding period of 5 years, your example cites watches produced ~50 years ago or 10 times longer to hold.

Bottom line, a new mass produced Rolex watch is not an investment in any way shape or form and certainly NOT in that short a time period.

It's not price but supply. Again it is a great investment in joy and poor investment overall. I don't see any luxury item as an investment.
