Thank you for helping.........

I am looking at a Rolex for myself and the wife for our anniversary - and I am going crazy looking and being offered stuff. I have narrowed the wifes watch down to 2 options, 1 is her year of birth (Which I will have to ship from the UK to the Middle East) and one I have been offered locally. I think the UK one is Bona Fide which is the 1st one below but I am not sure about the blue face and diamond. Is there any giveaways?

Both look OK, the diamond dial might be aftermarket though,
Do any of these come with box and papers?

neither do. The older one is 40 years old so understandable, the newer diamond one also doesn't but the locals cant look after the bookpack in a $300,000 car so not much chance with a watch. Think its over priced at $4000 but as with most things over here they will always barter.

Thanks for the reply

That's what I thought, out here they all want garish bright things though. When I went in the AD tonight he looked at me like I was an alien when I asked to see a plain datejust - and they will not do a deal. I think all in all the other one is a better watch and nearly half the price.

What kind of import tax if you would buy from one of the trusted sellers here? Always curious about that.

If it gets spotted 5%. I would probably only send watch here and the box to the UK via snail mail.

From a fellow expat, I'll just throw this out there, but have you thought about going on holiday for the anniversary? If so, there are some cheaper places to pick up Rolex in person, such as Hong Kong (especially used and grey) or Amsterdam (specifically Schiphol airport for new). Then you'd have some memories tied into the watches too. Don't let your anniversary watch commemoration be clouded by anxiety and potential buyer's remorse.

Hi guys, Ref the diamond face, how can I be certain it is not factory? Its a 1984 and was actually bought in the US by the current owner who swears it is original - Even to the point of meeting me at the AD here.

Because those settings didn't exist in 84.

Only cheaper if I want new, Which I am not bothered about. Bought my 1st and only Rolex new from a dealer in 06 so didn't have the worries of it not being quite what it seems.............. This forum has been a great help though and I have certainly learned some things.
