want to get some opinions

I just picked up a Y serial numbered Submariner from a place that sells pre-owned Rolex Watches but not a AD. I had them look through the jeweler's loop but they said they didn't see the Laser Etched Crown but I have seen it with the flash from my phone in a dark room. Below is the picture I took and would just like some opinions on the authenticity. Please excuse the picture, it was taken with my Galaxy Note 3, although its a 13 megapixl cam not the best to try to take such a picture in a dark closet. Thanks.

Looks like a blurry picture of a LEC. How about photos of the rest of your watch?

To be honest, if you had misgivings about authenticity, why did you buy it in the first place?

Isn't a y serial too old to have factory LEC? Thought that didn't start until they started engraving the rehaut?

No, my Y Sub has an LEC and no engraved rehaut.

I think they started in 2003. Mine is a Y5, I'm guessing yours is a Y1,2,3 or 4 if there's no LEC.

Just pulled out the paperwork and the serial starts with Y1 so guess that explains it

No misgivings, just wanted some opinions. Mine is a Y883XXX serial number. I have hade a few SS Datejusts but never a Sub and this is the first one with the LEC.

Looks fine...sharp lugs, sharp bezel and all that. While we have the magnifier out, and are in deep inspection mode, I assume your clasp code starts with either AD, DT, or DE.

Looks like AD6? Any clarification?

Did a little research. I believe the AD refers to the year 2003 on the bracelet. Also case starts with Y serial number also 2002/2003. Now the #6 after the AD might refer to the month of June? Not sure but will appreciate any feed back.

Yep, AD6 signifies the bracelet clasp was stamped in June 2003. The watch itself can be later than the clasp code by a few months or even years, but not usually earlier (if so, it's a replacement clasp). So your watch is likely a latter 2003, and so probably a Y5,6,7,8 or 9?

I turned 40 today and this was a gift from my wife. Like I said I have had a few SS Datejusts over the years but she knew I was eyeing this Sub for awhile.

Good to know. It just threw me for a loop (pun intended)when the jeweler ssid he didn't see the LEC on the cyrstal when I was pretty sure it was there. He also couldn't find it on a Z serial Datejust which should have had one.
