Beware of member 'slowlori' - scammer
I don't write this lightly as I'm conscious this involves a member of this community...albeit one that has never posted...
Following the posting of a WTB add, I received an unsolicited contact from member 'slowlori' who joined TRF that same day. He offered to sell me exactly the watch I was after at a very good (all most too good) price...of course my guard was immediately up. I requested references and other contact details and he provided "his" eBay username of "Streetshot" (who has a 100% positive rating) and offered for me to PM through eBay to verify his identity. I did so and he replied back via PM within eBay from that same eBay account and provided some half convincing story of who he was that matched the type of items sold by that seller (photographer selling photographic equipment). He also wrote to me from a gmail address and sent me photographs of the watch that he said was his to be selling. Perhaps by coincidence, it was displaying the same date as that day. Still being suspicious, I continued to pushed him for more information about himself and references...he went quiet and didn't respond. I've just now received a message from eBay stating that the eBay account 'streetshot' was hi-jacked and warning against any transactions. Moderators - could you please consider this and the future of 'slowlori' upon this site. Regards, Ian Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Another reason why I think people are CRAZY to buy from anyone except a well known established and reputable trusted seller with lots of history and references!!!! Slowlori is no Bannedlori.
Also: These always happen with WTB ads which I also think are not a good idea. If you want a certain watch pm the best of the best and let them find for you or simply go to an AD. Either way safe and without peril. To each his own though and the I have been scammed threads always have the exact same details around them and usually because someone wanted to save a few dollars and try to buy below market price, did a WTB, and bought from an unknown.

Similar situation happened to me a few weeks ago. I'm glad to hear you did not get ripped off and appreciate your reporting it to everyone on TRF. Be careful out there!

For me they are actually not disturbing at all. If they were spread among very reputable sellers we all know and trust that would be disturbing. They are always the same for most and are unknown sellers, responses to WTB ads, and people shopping for below market prices. If people would pay attention and stick to the basics all would be fine. I have been collecting luxury watches for 27 years and have never had one issue let alone a scam pulled on me. There are many top sellers with many pages of solid feedback so no need to wander off into unchartered territories.
