1969 Waltham Military GG-W-113
I just picked up this Waltham GG-W-113.
It appears to be in very good shape with a couple small scratches on the crystal which I should be able to buff out with some polywatch. It seems to be running well but occasionally the second hand seems to get stuck on the minute hand between 10:05 & 10:10. A tap on the crystal will usually get it running again. Any ideas on what might cause this? I've show it to a local jeweller who suggested a movement service/cleaning & hand adjustment but I wanted to get opinions here before doing anything. Thanks. :) |

Beautiful piece, nice pick-up!
I tend to agree with the watchmaker, it may seem like s/he is trying to drum up business for him/her self but you have no idea what is going on inside and any assumptions that it's an easy adjustment to fix it is just that, and assumption, you won't know for sure until you have it all apart. This is what watchmakers do, I would follow the advice given. Love the watch, it's a stunner!

Beautiful timepiece indeed, I love its military look.
As for your problem, if the second hand gets stuck on the minute hand than they definitely need to be re-adjusted, perhaps the person who put them last time let the minute hand with a too big angle or pushed the second hand too deep on the second wheel's pivot. As for the movement's service, the watch may run well for now but if you don't know its service history it would be good to ask your watchmaker to do it at the same time. It never hurts and you'd be good for quite a few years.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll provide an update once I've had her serviced.
Cheers. |
