Wives and watches
Most of us have wives or girlfriends (or life-partners?? NTTAWWT) who either can't stand to hear us drone on about watches or are mearly tolerent of this crazy hobby.
My wife borders on 'can't stand it' and 'will tolerate' this illness. Sometimes she begrudges the money I've spent on watches and other times I hear her bragging to her girlfriends that 'my husband has a Rolex' so maybe she's bi-polar. She's also very proud of her TAG Alter Ego, but on the whole, she's not 'into' watches. In some ways I wish she was, cuz then we'd be a couple like Bruce and Tam, albeit, with less $$ in the bank . What about you guys? |

I can't say Arleen is into watches, but she does tolerate my nasty habit. She does like watches, though. She certainly didn't turn her nose up at the Cartier Tank Francaise I got her for every day wear, or the Cartier Declaration for dress. Years ago, she bought a classic Piaget Polo and one time in Italy, she spotted a store with Locmans (this was when they first came out and way before they became all the rage) and bought a big yellow chronograph which she wears quite a lot. But you'll notice that all her watches are quartz. She doesn't wear any one often enough to keep it running if it were an automatic.
And she likes the people we've met through this habit. So that's a good thing, too.

Brenda just about tolerates my interest in watches. She can't understand the need for more than one.
She does like her Rolex a lot and was over the moon when I gave it to her for our pearl wedding anniversary.

I don't think that Jacqui really understands my "hobby" but knows that it makes me happy, so that's good enough for her. She likes the watches that I have, but of course the cost is an issue. I think since I have taken up the watch repair/rebuilding side of things, she knows that it's not just some passing interest that I have that will go away in a year or so, and leave me with a bunch of expensive toys I'm not interested in any longer. She is already prepared for the time when I want a new watch, so knows that it will happen eventually. I consider myself pretty lucky in that she is supportive to the stage that she is.

Al, given Jacqui's support of your archery, her support of your watch hobby isn't surprising. You're lucky to have found her.

Zemina loves watches, but believes in just ONE watch at a time....and for her it just has to be a ROLEX. In the 25 years since the two of us bought are very first TT DJs at the same time in Teheran (Iran), the current Lady YM is her third Rolex. She has worn the previous two for an average of around 10~11 years each before trading up on the next one!!

I do not think my wife cares what watch she is wearing. She like watches that are understated. She inherated my Moms tiny solid gold Ebel from the 60's in which we spent several hundred bucks to be fixed. She has really has enjoyed her Raymond Weil I bought her back in 1996. She could care less about movements or other watch stuff for her.
Last year when I bought my TT GMT from a used Rolex dealer, I wanted to get her a Rolex. She did not want one, she is not crazy about the design. So she opted for a used Cartier TT Panthere midsize. She loved it, I hated it. I was affraid if we ever desided to dump it we would take a beating on it. Cartier does not hold its value as much as Rolex does. A few months ago, the bracelet came apart. It was going to cost $750 to get it replaced, and then it would not match the head because of the age of the watch. I contacted the guy we bought it from, he gave us a fair amount on a trade, and she agreed to get a TT lady datejust. After having it almost a month, she does like it. It has a smooth bezel, so she feels it does not scream Rolex. As far as my collecting, my wife appreciates the quality of my watches, but still thinks its a crazy hobby. I show her watch magazines with watches costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, she thinks it nuts even if we were rich enough to afford it. She is pretty cool though, she lets me buy and swap with in reason. She gave me my first Rolex for my 30th birthday and supported me trading up 13 times until I ended up with my DD. So to sum it up I guess Brenda does support my hobby, even though she is not a watch nut. |

My wife couldn't care less about watches, she tolerates my sickness only because it makes me happy. But theres a limit to her tolerence, if there wasn't I'd own alot more watches, and a new motorcycle, and a new sports car.

Kelly tolerates it but care less if she ever had a Rolex. That's not to say if I came home with one for her she'd tell me to bring it back. She knows how much it means to me to have the one I do and is cool with it. I show her pics and prices of other things in magazines and books and she goes along with it just to please me. She never tells anyone I have one or pointed it out to anyone for ant reason, which is good. I like to fly under the radar. Hard to do with a Sub sometimes, but I don't flash it either.

Sash leans more towards Hamilton than Rolex - the Ventura's really caught her eye and the Lady DJ just doesn't do anything for her.
As for the watch habit, Sash tolerates it, and occasionally gives me watch-related books as presents saying, "I don't know why I encourage you".

My wife favors Seiko's. She has a had titanium model for quite a while. It weighs next to nothing. I bought her a Bulova this Christmas. Gold with leather strap. She says it will be worn only on what she describes as 'special occasions', whatever they may be!
She regards my watch aficionado traits as oddball. Her interests only lie the world of precious stones and gold. I look through some of the glossies to see who's wearing what in the watch department. She gloats over multi karat diamond rings and the like. |

My wife is almost as bad as me.
Her collection = Rolex Air King, Ebel, Tag F1 , Tudor mini-sub ladies.and a few others I don't remember. So whenever I buy one, I have to double the price |
