15202 is the original AP RO design. 15400 is a chunkier, sportier version.

Yes this latest AP RO which harks back to the 5402 is the first Jumbo I have really liked since then and despite no seconds hand or hacking I would prefer this to the 3 and 400s, which are still obviously fantastic watches.

As a person in the market for a Jumbo, I have to ask: is the almost 2X cost of the 15202 over the 15300 (I want 39mm) justified?

If I go 15300, I can also afford a second watch to add to the collection. If I go 15202, my budget is blown for a long time!

I appreciate why some folks are fanatical about the 15202, but if you're asking this question at all then the answer is probably no. And I'm not saying that critically--it wouldn't be worth it to me either.

Its amazing how 2mm make such a huge difference. Just by looking at the pics here. I have a small wrist and the 15400 is as big as it gets, i mean max. for my wrist already. So im saving up to try the 15202. The price and scarcity is quite a challenge.

I have to admit I haven't done the wrist comparison first. Which I know will give me the best info possible.
From the other WIS comments, it's clear those who own the 15202 wouldn't consider anything else in its place. That certainly means a lot.
I was also thinking about searching for a vintage Jumbo It looks like that might split the cost difference...but clearly hard to find, even harder with provenance.

Totally logical and if I'd never worn each on my wrist, I'd agree with you 100%. However the heart beats ever so much faster, you sweat just a little bit more, and your mouth gets slightly drier when you have the 15202 on. Of course, the only real solution is to have both.

Absolutely!

You really need to try each on to see and feel the difference. The 15300 is a beautiful watch and a great value. I tried to fall in love with it but just didn't, and as odd as it sounds I didn't like its second hand & the tail on it. I tried a 15400 but to me the proportions weren't quite right. Then it bothered me I could tell the movement was from a smaller watch. I tried on the 15202 and everything came together. No second hand to bother me, the dial color was stunning its a different color blue than AP uses on other pieces, and the proportions were perfect. Combine that with the iconic ultra thin automatic movement, and I knew which was right for me. All are great watches, and no watch can be every thing to everyone. So try them in person and you will know if the jumbo is worth its price. I question if a simple time only watch could be worth that amount and IMHO, yes it is.

IMO, The very awesome 15202 & 15305 (open worked) are the BEST in the whole RO collection.

Ok, now I get it. The ultra thin is amazing.
I first tried the 15400, then a luscious rose gold dual time, and then she brought out the ultra thin... And it just feels perfect.

Both superb, quality wise. How much is total satisfaction worth? In my case, with small wrists, the smaller but thicker 15450 would seem to be the best vs the larger but thinner 15202. But, the 202 fit me better, sold the 15450...

I've been struggling with the same question for the last few weeks - 15202 vs 15400, either in SS w/blue dial....

After trying a few on, I'm thinking 15400, as I'm a bigger guy (6'1", 225) and can handle the size, and it provides flexibility to wear as a dress watch as it fits under cuff and doesn't look too big, or with jeans as it's large enough for me...

Now the hunt to find a good price...

Not trying to offend anyone but in my opinion the 15400 has lost much of the 39 mm series flair. It seems to me somewhat disproportionate since the bracelet size is the same of 15300 but the case is 2 mm bigger.

So what's stopping me??

1. Love my 15400 blue dial I have. I actually prefer the blue shade better than the latest I series.

2. It would cost me 8k USD to trade up. Is it worth it??

3. Stick with the 15400 and then use saved money to buy a patek aquanaut. This will be a good edition to my AP, GMT, JLC MUT Moon and Reverso duo.

4. I actually love wearing my 15400 and find it comfortable and at present it's a comfortable and perfect work watch.

5. The 15202 (a beautiful piece) is somewhat fragile and the high servicing costs is a turn-off.

4. I actually love wearing my 15400 and find it comfortable and at present it's a comfortable and perfect work watch. … my experience trying them both on convinced me to go with the Jumbo, only you know how they fit you.

5. The 15202 (a beautiful piece) is somewhat fragile and the high servicing costs is a turn-off……. finally service costs are related to a special movement, which is where the additonal cost is going to begin with, it is a movement that has history and tradition in this special piece as well as others.

as far as fragile, i wear mine to work regularly, i do physical work, aside from a few scratches (don't care) there have been no issues, its still ticking and i am enjoying it as i enjoy my submariner
