Looking good, Art.

Converse are just so much fun! I should have rediscovered them sooner.

Gus,
Your avatar is one of my all time favorite movies. Dr. Strangelove man Peter was incredible in that movie. Never get tired of watching that movie.

I like them too.

Soon heading to Thailand, where I buy them. They're only 20 euro for the regular models there. Reason? Converse are made in Thailand, thus no tax on them there.

They do look good indeed Art!

Now as for Lisa, she does have the bad habit of doing that...and then I'm being called the Coffeeshop's Hipster...

Sorry, Carl... you will never let me live that down!

I don't like the shoes because they're "hipster," though. I like 'em because they're old school. Now, if only they were still made in the USA....

Yes, these were make in China, as is that black leather pair. Most I see are made in Vietnam. Yes, it's the old school look I like.

They've always had kind of a cool factor, in the 80's all the kids had a pair to be just a touch retro or vintage. In the 90's they were a bit more counter culture and really ever since they've been the perfect foil for any over constructed look. They've also been the go to shoe for hipsters for years and the non high-top version has been ripped off by so many other shoe makers its absolutely crazy.

The non high-top version maybe the most plagiarized shoe in history...

Marc, my 14 year old daughter is a tomboy... but for a recent school dance she decided to wear a skirt (she didn't even own a skirt or dress, so I took her shopping). Instead of sparkly sandals and little heels like the rest of the girls wore, she sported some bright white Converse hi-tops. Cutest look ever on her.

I think in the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" Jessica Tandy wore red hi-tops with her old-lady cotton shift. It was a great look.

True,bt Converse themselves only added their branding to previous designed shoes.

Adding further these have always been mainly associated to 'Rockers' here, although they have came and went in into fashion with other groups over the years. I used to wear these as very young kid with a donkey jacket to mimic my dad.

Point taken, but I would argue that the Converse version of the shoe was the first foray into sneaker branding and therefore they were the first to grow based on name recognition. The popularity of the shoe was solely based the emergence of their branding-power and being associated with a proven design. JMHO

Fair point and one that's really not arguable other than to say, that Converse's being plagiarised can only be used in the context of the branding of a similar shoe rather the design sans branding, no?

Yup, but chicken or the egg, would it have been plagiarized as extensively in the modern day without the runaway success of the Chuck T's over the decades. Again, JMHO

Sorry for the highjack Lisa!

Hey, it's not my thread.

Makes me want to review the history of Converse a bit more. Wikipedia is a good start:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Taylor_All-Stars

Wow - didn't know Nike owns Converse.

Here is another pair of zip ups. In general the construction of Converse it not that good, far below my AirJordans, these ones are well made and the leather top notch.

I'm always on the look out for out of the way Converse zip ups. Thanks Lisa. :chuckle
