A question when buying used

I have recently been look at a TT Datejust model build in 1990. My question was, do these old watches still keep good time, how do they appreciate or depreciate in value, and wether something like that could be worn as an everyday watch in regards to its age.

Thanks in advance for all replies,
Luka Jurcic

Certainly it can be worn everyday. I would factor in the price of a service.

If properly serviced, it'll run as well as any modern watch. The nice thing about used Rolexes is that they've depreciated as much as they will.

With regular maintenance, mechanical watches surely will keep good time even after a long time. And whether a watch can keep its value is really determined by the condition(scratch, dent etc.) But if you wear a new watch in everyday life, then it will lose 20%~50% of its price easily when you wanna sell it.
Wearing vintage watch is certainly cool ! Just make sure the rubber seal is changed to a new one to make it water-resistant.

Frankly, based on your questions, I suggest don't touch used watches, since the sellers might cheat you easily with fake ones(or partly fake ones)

Unless provided recent service documentation from RSC or a well-regarded independent with a Rolex parts account, I'd assume the watch needs servicing. If for nothing else, for peace of mind.

As everyone said - yes!

Now about the watch - make sure it is all correct inside and out. Have it checked out by a good watchmaker to be sure you don't have a big service bill to pay right after buying

1990 is not an "old watch" and should function and keep time as well as it did new after a clean, oil, and lube service.

X2 Have a few from the 1920s and they still perform within a few seconds a day.Age is not a huge factor with any Rolex, main thing is regular routine service then most Rolex could out live there owners.
