Grand Seiko SBGV005

Just got this new model. It's my first GS and I went quartz with it...
Already have too many automatics, and wanted a quality quartz in my collection. At 40 mm, with a nice dial and the blued seconds hand, it was an easy choice.

Beautiful. I love it!

Would you say that the fit and finish is on par with Rolex, Omega, etc..? It sure looks like it.

I really want a GS quartz and hi-beat in my collection.

Fantastic watch choice. I can stare at my SBGX061 all day long. I love how the date fills the entire aperture; the number just looks so nice in there.

Thank you all for your comments!

I'm very happy with it, and the quality is what I was expecting. Impeccable finish and everything looks and feels top class. I cannot compare it with a Rolex since I don't own one, but if I compare it with my Panerai or IWC I would definitely put them in the same class.

From now on, I won't be using the phone to put in time my mechanical watches!

Your GS looks great next to your Pam. The GS is one of the most under the radar watches out there. If I saw somebody with a GS, I'd think to myself "That guy knows his watches!"

When a GS needs to be serviced, I assume that it has to be sent to Japan? I can't imagine any watchmakers (outside of Japan) working on GS given its tiny presence around the world.

Yeah, that's pretty recent. I sent in a couple GS's in early 2013 and they still automatically had to go to Japan then. I'd heard of Seiko stepping up their Mahwah watchmaker training in recent years; I guess they're finally comfortable unleashing them on stateside GS customers.

Precisely because of that I chose to buy a quartz model instead of a mechanical. I live in South America and there is nowhere in the region to have it serviced. Changing a quartz battery will be a different story! :)

This is a lovely watch. The stock pictures on the Seiko's site simply do not do it justice, but your photos really bring the design to life. Enjoy it!

On my list-but an automatic model in my case.

Great watches that are true world-class in every regard.
